Default Number porting question.

Id like to go with the 8900 from my Sprint 8830. My contract with Sprint isn't up for another few months.

I know if I port the number now on Tmo it will cause the contract with Sprint to be canceled and Ill owe the cancellation fee. My question is, can you port the number after Tmo has already given a new number? In other words, can I call Tmo and say ok I'm out of contract with Sprint now, can you change my number to my sprint number?

I know I must not cancel the Sprint account before tmo can port the number.

Careful with this. I got into trouble with T-Mo, bought new phone with new #, ported another #, and ended up paying an ETF on original #. I am still upset about it months latr.

So wait... T-Mo gave you a new number on a new phone, then later ported a different number, then charged you a ETF on the original number they gave you?

I would suggest waiting until your Sprint contract is up to avoid any issues but I don't see why TMO charged you an ETF. it's like if I wanted to port my home number then it shouldn't be a problem I would assume. So if you change your number, would TMO charge you an ETF? It would be stupid in my opinion if they did that because I wouldn't be cancelling my contract. Some TMO reps don't know what they're talking about because I've gotten false info before regarding the @Home service. Make sure you speak to a few reps and see what they all tell you. I would hate for anyone to pay an ETF because they received the wrong info.

You can port your Sprint number at any time. So if you would like to begin service with T-Mobile prior to your Sprint contract end date, you can do that and then port your Sprint number in when the contract has completed and is on a month-to-month basis.
