Question No more credit / payments?

Just told by a friend that they went to the T-Mobile store yesterday to upgrade their phone, and was told that they no longer do credit/payments, as of a few days ago. Reason given was the upcoming merger. According to my friend, this means all upgrades get you a discount, but you need to pay the remaining balance immediately. This would kinda suck, as splitting the discounted price over three months really helps. Any verification or dispute to this rumor?

It seems to be happening across the board; I found out today that TMO Puerto Rico is no longer offering the installment plans either. BIG bummer...

When I bought my Sensation I had to pay full price right away, but I did it online.

It appears that the credit/installments are on the outs. I haven't heard of anyone getting them recently. You now have to pay upfront.

Wow. That just blows. I always got my phones in installments. That's one of the main reasons why I loved T-Mobile. As of lately I have been unhappy with them. Their customer service has gone down the hole. I called to have a SIM Unlock Request on all my 9700s and I got someone from god knows where. I could barely understand them. Now this. Could it be that the merger will indeed go through? Let's stay tuned.

Why do something that costs you money? Even if it is good for the customer. American Business 101.

It's one of the reasons T-Mobile separated itself from other carriers. Either way they got their money because it went on your bill. So if you didn't pay it, you get disconnected. To my knowledge, no other carrier out there gave you phones in four easy installments, interest-free. You can't beat that.

And that's exactly WHY American business has such a bad reputation...When you do something good for your customer, you bring in more customers as they share their experience with others. (Web 2.0 anyone?) The benefits you reap outweigh the cost.
