Question New Blackberry

I need some help figuring out what to do. I'm currently with TMobile on a family plan with my mom (I use the curve 8320 and she has a basic flip phone) with unlimited text and and a basic blackberry plan for my phone, but I want to switch to a Bold 9900 and get a separate line. I tried to upgrade online but the upgrade program was either never working or said that neither phone was eligible for an upgrade. Plus I couldn't find the date when the contract was up. What will I have to do/pay in order to get the phone? Which plan (value or individual) is considered better?

thanks

How much do you currently pay for family plan? Do you use a lot of data?

When you log in to your My T-mobile account, under the names of the persons you have on the family plan, you'll be able to see if you can add-a-line. If you don't see that then most likely you don't qualify for another line. Also, if your bill is past due then you won't be able to do anything like upgrades, change plans, etc. If you want to check your contract end date or when you might qualify for an upgrade, then you can use any of the upgrade checker option from various sources. You can use the Bestbuy mobile upgrade checker if you want. As far as the plans go, they have the Unlimited Value Bundle with 2GB of data (Plus Plan) for $60 or the 500 Minute Value Bundle with 2GB of data (Plus Plan) for $50. Excluding taxes and any other fees of course. Remember, BBs consume far less data then Android phones. If you have WiFi at home it's even better for you. You have a few options. Do some research to see which is best for you.

@Miz.Michele: The total charge all together for both phones was $136.67, but they recently upped it to $139.15 a month. No I don't use a lot of data. The amount I use is always less than 2 GB.

@Armando175: I can't change any of our current plans, but I can add an additional line. Unfortunately when I checked with the best buy tool it says that I can't upgrade until 02/27/2012 and the contract fully ends 05/08/2012. The unlimited value bundle sounds good, but to get the phone would I have to pay that extra $200 fee that I keep reading about?

The value plan would work. If you both use data, it would be 100 for both of you before taxes. If you mom does not use data, you can knock 10 dollars off and it would be 90 a month. There is a migration fee to change plans. It's prorated so it would be around 100 one time charge. On the value plan you have to buy the phones outright.

If you are saving 35 by switching that's 420 a year times 2 years which is 840 less the 100 fee per line so you are saving 640 You would have to shop around as as long as you are paying less than that over 2 years for phones, then you are ahead.

So then since I can't upgrade, should I go take out a line in my name with the new phone and value plan so that my mum can then cancel the blackberry from hers change to a single line and keep her flip phone? Or just wait it out till I can get an upgrade and then move to a separate line?

I would wait until you can close your line. Did your contract begin in May of 2010? The ETF for your phone was $200 at that time, but it has decreased monthly by. $10, so its probably less than $100 now. If you use the T-Mobile online chat with Customer service, you can ask what the exact amount would be to cancel your line and leave your mom on the plan.
