Default New to BB Curve 8320...need some advice

I just purchased a pre-owned 8320 curve and had some questions on getting it set up. I've read thru the FAQ's and I'm still left with a few questions. I am currently a Tmo customer using a Samsung T-429 with a Myfaves plan and the $19.99 unlimited text and data plan. I will not be switching to the BB plan.

This is what I'm planning to do:
1.) Wipe the hand held of all personal data.
2.) Perform a hard reset

This is what I have questions on:
1.) I've heard that the 8320 has video capability with the correct version of OS and I've also heard I have to contact Tmo to enable the Blackberry Feature Enabler which one is it or do I have to do both?
2.) Can I use the browser that comes on the device or do I have to use a different browser such as Opera? If so how do I get it?
3.) From what I've read so far...this is my conclusion: I won't be able to use some of the apps, such as Facebook, Gmail etc., but shouldn't I be able to just go to my internet browser and go to those sites via browser?
4.) How do I enable picture messaging?

That's all I that I have questions on for now, if you guys see that I'm missing something or have any recommended apps that I would be able to use I'm open to suggestions!

A BIG THANK YOU IN ADVANCE TO EVERYONE!!! YOU'RE HELP AND SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

THANK YOU!!!

1. It has video capability with version 4.5 software. No need to call T-Mobile to get it to work.

2. You can use the browser on the device. I've found that both Opera Mini and Bolt Browser work a bit better than the default browser. The default browser works best when accessing sites that have embedded video links, such as YouTube.

3. The browser does allow you to get to those sites. Keep in mind, if you're not going to get the data package, you can only use the browser when you're on WiFi.

4. Picture messaging is on by default. You may have to tweak browser settings to allow embedded media in a MMS.

He says he has the data plan and is only not planning to upgrade to the BB plan. The browser will work fine without WiFi. Apps such as facebook, AIM, maps, ect wont work though. Also wont be able to sync an email with your phone.

the data plan that you currently have will not work on the BB 8320 or with any BB.

You will need to get the BB data plan if you want to use web features unless you want to use WiFi which some apps still do not work and requires BB data plan.

$34.99 a month will give you unlimited BB data & unlimited messaging.

You can still send Picture messages using gprs & you can access opera using WiFi and go to other websites such as facebook but will be limited to Opera

and for the poster above me, he will only be able to use certain websites using the browser over wifi. Without the data plan he is very limited to what he can browse. Such as downloading apps OTA.

The browser worked fine on my 8320 with the regular(non bb) unlimited data plan that I used with my WinMobile phone.

Unless T-mob changed their service VERY recently, I don't see what problem he would have with surfing the web WiFi free.

Just set up the correct APN (wap.voicestream.com was the one I was using a while back may have changed) and use Opera or Bolt. The "stock" browser and apps won't work. Same with no e-mail support through the BIS or the BBM.

With said you can use any third party app with no problem that I'm aware of(which is why opera and bolt work). The gmail app is your friend too.

Basically the RIM stuff won't function but even the facebook and such apps still work as long as the APN is set up.

options / advanced options / TCP/IP

epc.tmobile.com

Use that as your APN, it's faster than wap.voicestream.com

If you don't have a BB data plan, set the default browser to "Hotspot Browser" and you will be able to use the browser on Wi-Fi connection.

If you do not have o/s version 4.5.0.81 on it, get it from here...

Thank you all for all the insight! I should be getting my 8320 in the mail in a couple days and I'll give those all a try and see how it works out!

**UPDATE**

Okay, so I got my 8320 in the mail and I've so far...

1.) Wiped the device
2.) installed v4.5.0.81
3.) installed Bolt browser
4.) sent my APN to: epc.tmobile.com

I go to any website on WiFi on any browser with no problem with the browser configuration set to Hotspot Browser. However, if I do not use WiFi and and set browser configuration back to t-zones and try to connect via Bolt browser, it says there is no internet connection. Network in the corner says edge (in lowercase). I've read on these forums that some people have had no issues with using t-zones and a 3rd party browser, but I haven't had any luck with it? Am I missing something here that I'm not doing? I've been at this for the past 2 days and still can't seem to figure it out.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'm guessing you still haven't gotten the BB data plan, I'm pretty sure 3rd party browsers aren't going to work through a T-Zones WAP browser.

With Bolt, it's been my experience, that in "preferences" if "Wi-Fi" is checked, it won't work on EDGE, apparently it doesn't auto detect like Opera Mini does.

If you did, or plan to get the BB data plan (and you really should for more reasons than I care to list) you will need to do the following...

Go to... options / advanced options / host routing table

Once there, hit the menu button, select "register now"

You will get a message in your message box that says "your handheld has been registered with the wireless network"

Then, go to... options / advanced options / browser

Now set the following parameters just like this...

Default browser configuration: Internet Browser

Default MDS browser configuration: Internet Browser

Default WAP browser configuration: T-Mobile

He will have no prob with the WiFi browsing experience but ......you said he'd be fine browsing on network with the current data plan....incorrect.....feature enabler is no longer offered
