Default My Tmob plan

I am new to the Crackberry world and am pleased with the BB 8900 I have. I chose to go with the even more plus 500 talk+text plan. I have wifi here at home and see that UMA is up and running.

I can get on the internet whenever I use the Browser button (once in awhile it will bring up "an upsell is required") and am trial running beejive currently. I was told that using UMA will not incur any charges against my plan minutes. I also am wondering ... well praying that my being able to use the browser will not generate some data bills whatsoever.

Should I be worried about using that browser? AFAIK beejive should be fine for my usage. Thanks.

As long as you're on Wi-Fi, you shouldn't incur any charges.

I use Beejive as well. It's a good app. Make sure to set it to work over "Wi-Fi only" in the app options.

I have another question also. There is a cell tower three miles down the road and for some reason I cannot get a good signal from it. It's driving me nuts! Basically my signal strength is SOS only. How do I set the BB to lock onto that tower and get a full strength signal??? UMA is fine for home but when I'm away from home in the area I have virtually no service.

You cannot force your phone to lock onto a tower. Have you tried looking at the online coverage map on Tmobile to see how your signal should be?

I was wondering b/c I googled and read that with some BBs you can update the cell tower list. I also ran a test that said my APN list was empty. Don't know if that has anything to do with this sitch.

I feel that UMA will be fine for now. I do have a dumbphone that works with that local tower anyway. I was just curious why the BB Tmob doesn't connect with it. FWIW I do a lot of business locally in a nearby town and I get EDGE there. I feel the 8900 is a great phone for future uses anyway.

BBs can "manually" connect to the towers you specify, yes. But that doesn't mean you'll get data on them. T-Mobile needs to have roaming agreements with other towers like ATT so that you can roam on them and use data.

Okay I did a little digging and am going to call Tmob in a little bit. I found through this link that the cell tower down the road is called Bagley, Smith.

I then found this site that shows a roaming agreement with Tmobile.

Any thoughts on this?

Is this a T-Mobile tower or an AT&T tower? Not all AT&T towers have agreements to provide roaming with T-Mobile.

It's a Cellular One tower. The link I posted shows that as of April 30, 2010 that Bagley, Smith has declared active roaming agreements with a number of network operators- Tmobile being one of them.

I've got the phone here so I'm getting set to call Tmob. I have a dumbphone from Cellular One that gets full bars as I mentioned that the tower is 3 miles down the road.

Tech should be able to reset the phone to pick up that tower.
