Default a moment to vent

I have been an avid loyal blackberry user for 4 years now and have been with t-mobile for 10 years, like most of you I cannot be without the crackberry. I currently use the 9700 v5.0.0.714 and for the last 8 weeks have had network problems out the ying yang; spent countless hours on the phone with tech support and they recognize the problem; no here is the kicker and let this one soak for a minute: after 3 handset exchanges all having the same prob they want to exchange my beloved 9700 for a fickin' motorol cliq and the cust serv rep says its a very comparable phone...yep and I am the second coming. thank you for the avenue to vent. if any of you have had a similar story would love to hear.

Haha that's funny.

I'm sorry you're having problems though. I suggest finding out what sells for more, get that phone from tmo, sell it, and get a different smartphone of your choice.

I've had similar issues on my 9700.... Until I upgraded my OS. And VOILA, no more issues...

A Motorola Cliq?! If only you could reach through the phone and punch that rep (if only this were possible. I've wanted to do this to the outsourced reps I get on occasion).

Don't blame the rep he/she were only following the script! Have you tried updating to a newer OS? May resolve you problems

979. I know it's not T-mo approved, but it will resolve a lot of issues for you. It did for me. Better UMA hand-off, better 3G signal even in places I never had signal period. The only downer is the battery drainage. But then again, you could always recharge your BB while you drive or work IMO. Just my .02c.

I don't know what you mean by network problems exactly, but if this sounds familiar, try my suggestion below. "My signal strength meter switches from 3G to EDGE to GPRS to SOS and everything in between without me even moving more than simply within my own home." I've seen this problem several times with the 9700, with only one did this not work for...

options > mobile networks > data roaming > (set to) Off

... battery pull and unless you need Wi-Fi calling (UMA) turn the connection preference to Mobile Network Only as well, that should clear everything up.

update to the fiasco at hand...finally I got a t-mob rep to listen and they are sending me the new G2; get to try it for 7 days; not sure if I am ready to give up the berry; even a semi-working berry is better than no berry.

@OP, have you considered/used/tried a hybrid OS? I went from .714 (which worked fine on my 9700 BTW) to a newer OS-built hybrid. It really seems to help a lot in performance among other things!
