Default This may be a dumb question, but...

Is Tmobile able to unlock my phone to use other carrier's towers? When I visit my mom, I have absolutely no signal with Tmo. However, according to VZW and AT&T, I would have coverage at her house with them. A friend told me to call Tmo and see if they will unlock my phone to use other carrier's towers so that I could get a signal at her house. If they are unable or not willing to do this, I am going to one of the other carriers so I figured I would ask you guys and see if you have ever heard of this.

first you should be able to manual search for a signal and connected to another carriers towers. this is what happens when you are roaming. the best thing would be if your mom has wireless internet then connect to her WIFI router and you will have the best signal(UMA)

You may be able to get your phone unlocked but that will only allow you to use another carriers SIM card in your phone (along with another account). It wont allow you to use AT&T towers with your existing TMobile account, if you can't do so otherwise.

Your best bet is to get a pre-paid phone from AT&T or Verizon and forward your TMobile phone to it when in that area, or switch carriers.

Yes I agree. Having your mom get a wifi router is an easy fix to this problem since you can make calls over wifi on many BBs.

If you unlock your phone, you will only be able to use it on carriers that use SIM cards, like ATT. VZW won't work as it is a CDMA carrier.

And ulnlocking your phone will be useful only if you decide to switch to ATT. That is, get an ATT account and put the SIM in your phone. It makes no diff on roaming?

My suggestion? Have your mom get a wifi router. It's the cheapest.
