lukewarm warranty experience
I had a problem with my 9780 under factory warranty and T-Mobile insurance. The best T-Mobile could do is replace it with a 9810 or Nokia Lumina. They would not find another 9780 for me or give me even a nickel's credit towards a 9900, even if I paid the $150 deductable. I took the 9810 and see now that the insurance isn't worth paying for unless you're ambivalent about what phone you carry.
I've been with T-Mobile since the 90s. They should do better for their customers. If Blackberry go out of business, I have no qualms about leaving T-Mobile for an iphone.
I'll keep the torch till bb10, then upgrade my wife to a London, take her 9900 and wait for a bb10 bold(?). - 06-05-2012, 08:36 PM #2
It might be worthwhile looking up the terms of your insurance contract.
IF they say a "comparable device" or whatever, you may be SOL.
On the other hand, if they're vague about the replacement device, you definitely have a leg to fight on. I'd take it up with retentions if I were in your shoes. In my own shoes, I'd take the 'upgrade' to the 9810

I ran into this same problem with my 9700 when I sent it in for warranty return service and they gave me a 9780 because the 9700 is supposedly discontinued (no problem there) but when I needed to send in my 9780 for a replacement they wanted to give me a Nokia as a replacement (Windows based smartphone) I told them I wasnt interested in any windows phone and I am certainly not interested in a full touchscreen either.
I was told that was my only option because they didn't have anymore 9780's in stock and to try again another time. So I am currently still holding on to a 9780 that doesn't displays the color black when taking pics (they show up as a dark purple-ish blue color)
I might also add that I am currently available for a full discount upgrade but my phone choice (9900) is still gonna cost me $300 (way out of my price range at the moment)
Good luck resolving your issue.

I had the same problem with a Curve 8900 a couple of years ago, but I do admit that T-Mobile did try (somewhat) to help. They did give me a couple of choices as replacements.
