Default I've given up.....

I bought a 8820 on eBay that was advertised as "new". I could immediately tell it was refurbished. The phone displays Orange logos and initially tried to add +44 to all calls so obviously it came from the UK. The phone is unlocked and my T-Mobile sim card works....but I cannot get "EDGE", I get "edge" which means I can't use BES which is what I need more than anything. I put MY sim card in a friends T-Mobile BB Curve and it comes up with "EDGE". I put HIS sim in my 8820 and it comes up "edge". This tells me my plan is setup correctly, it is the phone. Is there anything I can do other than take my licks? I sent an email to Orange but I don't expect much to come out of that.

Yup, UK phones use a different freqency so it will never work properly. I suggest buying local on craigslist and such to avoid issues like this in the future

Contact the seller and/or Ebay - if the phone was advertised as "new" and it's obviously not, you may have some recourse there...

Very true, and if you continue to have the issue I would contact ebay as well.

Contact EBAY, and Paypal if that is how you paid. They will take care of it. It may not be for a few weeks until you get the result your looking for, but im sure the wait would be more than welcomed if you got a full refund

It appears my only recourse is to fight for my money. Orange said they cannot deregister the PIN. Thanks for the support guys (and gals!)

Correct me if I am wrong....but a "new, never opened" phone would not have the PIN registered regardless of the provider correct? I've bought refurb'd phones in the past so that is why I had a feeling this one is a refurb, not to mention it must of been activated on the Orange network at some point for them to register the pin.

If the phone has never been activated, the PIN wouldn't be on the network. Therefore it was more than likely used at one point.
