Default Insurance question. Is it true that... ?

I went to a T-Mobile store the other day to check out OS6 on the 9780 and the myTouch4G. I talk to the rep there, and while talking, we were saying how T-Mo doesn't have the 9780 anymore and how I love my phone yet feel a bit cheated and I wonder "what if" something happens to my phone... long story short, he told me that if I go through insurance I will get sent a 9780 instead of a 9700, which they do not carry anymore.

What's he talking about? Someone please shed some CLEAR light.
Thanks

Based on your profile you have a BB 9700. T-mobile only sells the 9780 now, so any insurance exchange would mean you would receive the 9780 as a replacement. The 9780 is a better phone so I don't see any problem.

A better insurance option is to go to squaretrade.com and buy the warranty. it is more flexible, lower cost and lower deductible.

This is not true. All carriers keep warranty/insurance stock for a given model after the stores stop selling the phone. TMO still has 9700s available for warranty exchanges

Yes that is my point guys. I do have a 9700, hence why I am asking.

The guy said that yes, they do still have some 9700's, so if you go through warranty, you get a 9700. BUT! If you use INSURANCE, you get a 9780. I guess I had to pay for insurance, because I don't have it as far as I know, and I wonder if I can apply it now and maybe exchange my 9700 for a 9780. That's the main point.

My friend also confirmed that there is a listed update on the 9700, just not sure which one. But there seems to be one scheduled for the not so distant future.
