Default insurance of private purchase phones

Hi

I am trying to buy an 8900 curve for tmobile

but I want insurance on the phone, even though I am buying it privately....

I have insurance on my curve 83xx now, these I got direct from Tmobile---

Will tmobile insure the phone if it is a private purchase?

have any of you folks insured a phone you purchased thru a private party, not thru tmobile....

big al

No, they will not insure a device that they did not sell. I asked a T-Mobile manager this a while back and this is what he told me.

Best bet is to get it insured with your home owners(or renters) insurance! I think its cheaper yearly anyhow.

They would know the second you put your SIM in and register on the network. You dont really think the network system does not know the IMEI or ESN of the device connecting do you?

This is something for me to keep in mind. I am trying to get some answers but I don't want to double post or anything in that nature but can someone maybe give me some details as far as insurance on a phone. You see, I just got my niece the new Sidekick LX 2009 and I added insurance on it. The rep told me that there's a $130 deductible on it. What I would like to know is if there's limits on how many times you can submit a claim. You see my niece loses phones. She's careless. The rep told me he couldn't answer that for me because he didn't know honestly. I don't want to hijack the thread. Thanks CB heads!

I bought 2 curves on ebay and put insurance on them. Now it doesn't cover anything other than if u loose it or it breaks. I bought my an dropped it and the screen went blank. I had to pay the 130 and send the phone, now the one they send is completely covered. So whatever manager said that is wrong because I did it. And I have insurance,

It will be covered as far as tmobile is concerned, asurion my refuse to cover it though. They do 2 claims a year, then place an insuance block on the account until a year has passed. If you swap phones with a friend you're fine, but if its a non tmobile device, they dont cover it,

Is the 8900 you're buying for your line that already has insurance? Example: Are you replacing the 8320 with your current phone number on it, with the 8900, or is it for someone else?

If you purchased from a store or web, paid by VISA or Mastercard credit card, you might have extended insurance with the purchase

There are plenty of other insurance options out there if you're buying a device from a non-tmo seller but want it insured.

You should check out Square Trade. Lower (if any) deductible and they give you the cash value of your phone (when it was new, so for an 8900 that's like 450 or whatnot) so you can buy a new phone.

I've never gotten any phone I've had insured. Generally my 8900 is never more than a foot or two away from me and I rarely let anyone borrow it unless it's a best friend or close relative.

Do you really find the insurance thing to be a good deal? What do you fear needing it for?

They do wear out and not respond as well.I purchased a squaretrade warranty for my 8310 last summer.$28.99 I forgot to purchase the the accidental damage protection (ADP) for like $3 or $4.If had they require a $50 deductible.I purchased other warranties from them and filed a claim in the past. They refunded me the money I spent.

HOW THE COVERAGE WORKS:

* Reimbursements: Often times, reimbursing you the full cost of the item is faster and more cost-effective. If your item's shippable, we will provide you with a pre-paid shipping label. We generally pay claims (minus the minimum postage fee for the label) within 3-5 business days of item receipt.
* For items still covered by a manufacturer warranty at the time of claim: First, we will help you file a claim with your manufacturer.
o If the manufacturer replaces or repairs your item, your SquareTrade Care Plan will cover your manufacturer repaired or replaced item.
o If the manufacturer refuses to honor their warranty because they consider your item grey market or not purchased from an authorized retailer, we will still cover you.

Yes it will work, and always remember if a rep can't find an answer it is because they didn't look for the answer. In the policy it does tell you there is a 2 claim limit for a rolling calandar year. Ask them to pull the policy and if you don't believe them ask them where the policy is located, I love doing that when I call!! Lol
