T-Mobile's goal wasn't to design pricing programs to appeal to existing customers just to cut their profit margins. It was to snake the 3rd-place position in the USA away from Sprint. And that is accomplished by getting lots of new subscribers.
These new plans may not be attractive to you but then T-Mobile already has you. The goal is to get new folks from Verizon, AT&T and Sprint. And as far as that goal is concerned, they should do quite well. I have a friend who is with AT&T currently and he's switching to T-Mobile because the new plan is better than anything he can get from AT&T.
I looked into the new plans. If I pay a fee of $35.00, I can save $5 a month. So in other words, it takes me 6 months before I save a dime. For the time being, I'm sticking to my existing plan. But then again, they weren't designing new pricing plans to appeal to me. They already have me as a customer.
