Default How to send and receive free texts

I have a T-Mobile Blackberry Curve 8320 through my work with unlimited minutes and data; however, I have to pay for each text message at 0.20 cents a piece. I have some friends that have BB Messenger and some that have AIM or Yahoo IM, but is there an app that I can download to send and receive texts free through my data plan?

No. Not for FREE. What you can do is email others a text message. Simply start a new email & address as following based on carrier:

TMO: 5555555555@tmomail.net
AT&T: 5555555555@text.att.net
BOOST: 5555555555@myboostmobile.com
CING: 5555555555@cingularme.com
NEXTEL: 5555555555@messaging.nextel.com
SPRINT: 5555555555@messaging.sprintpcs.com
VERIZON: 5555555555@vtext.com
VIRGIN: 5555555555@vmobl.com
ALLTEL: 5555555555@alltelmessage.com or 5555555555@message.alltel.com

& the list goes on...

Your second option is to use an IM app like AIM, you can text a wireless number. They'll just need to have a compatible phone. Something that can receive/reply to short code, for example. Same with the first option, the phone needs to be able to receive/reply to email. Some older models can't.

Hope that helped.

what about using Google Voice and the GV app? I think that's all over data, then you could send/receive SMS's at no charge.

With GV, it's free to send texts through the app. However if people text you back, the texts will come through as normal SMS and you'll be charged for receiving.

(It's not like the good ol' days when "unlimited free incoming" texts were around!)

There is a setting in google voice that will only send the reply text to your google voice app thus eliminating any texting charges. The only catch with this is you must wait for the app to refresh and find your new text its not instant. The fasresr refresh rate for the google voice app is five min.

Enjoy free texting!
