If your two years are up and you haven't done an upgrade since then, then you can get the new two year price that you see online or in the store. Switching from 1000 sms to unlimited is a 5 dollar difference, but keep in mind data is now mandatory for full qwerty keyboard data devices, such as the 8320 and 8900. Unlimited data and messages will run you 34.99 a month.

I don't think data is mandatory. Tmo can't mandate you to pay for data.

Unfortunately you are wrong and they can make you pay for data, being a t-mobile customer myself I would know. I was forced to buy the curve 8900 at full price because i didn't want the data plan. It's a sad policy really.

I think most every carrier requires a data plan anymore. GSM carriers can't stop you from buying off ebay and putting in their SIM, but the CDMA guys won't even let you activate a BB without a data plan regardless how you got it.

I bought my curve 8320 less than a year ago with a 1 year contract without a data plan. Recently I added the email only plan for $10. A week ago I even added a data plan and had it removed after just 2 days. I decided that I had wifi coverage 90% of the time. Now I'm back with just email only.
Even if they make you buy a data plan to get the phone discount, you can cancel the data plan a day later. Just to let you know, I did order my bb over the phone with a retention rep. I still think that you can sign up with a data plan and cancel it after you get your rebates.

again you are still thinking wrong. if you cancel the data plan at any time before your contract expires. you are (a) charged the difference in total phone cost - phone rebate price or (b) you have to pay the ETF

The policy was instated on June 6th... phones purchased before that are not affected.

"t-mobile mandatory data plan" .... Google is your friend

Yes unbelievable...and unlimited email plan isn't good enough for you. Does it bother you as well that I don't have cable TV? Or that I'm not making car payments on a car that is way over-priced?
I'm not sure what you mean by 'getting over it'. Please enlighten me. And please don't give me that rant about 'being too cheap, etc'. Be more original :-)

Closest thing to what you're describing is the following plan:

myFaves 600 (49.99)
Unlimited data and texts (34.99)

Total of 84.99 a month. I'd also suggest the full coverage insurance for a new BB if you choose to upgrade to another one. It'll only cost you another 5.99 a month. With this feature added on top of what I already mentioned, you're looking at 90.99.
