Default Grandfathered data plans and upgrading.

I was a lucky duck recently and was able to get from CS the grandfathered BB data (19.99) and unlimited text (9.99) to replace the 34.99 bundle I had...so that's $5 in savings! w00t!

Anyway, I was told by someone that I better not plan on upgrading my BB in the future because they'll force me to take off those plans and tack on a 24.99 or 34.99 bundle instead. Supposedly grandfathered data plans "don't count" anymore?? wtf.

Is this true?...

I believe there was a 9.99 unlimited text for families.

The rep informed me that it was really a family text plan but it could be used on an individual one as well without issue. I'm not surprised though. Other Crackberry users have the 9.99 plan and they aren't on a family plan. Works just fine for me.

To me, it's just absurd that 14.99 is for unlimited msg for 1 person, but it's 5 dollars cheaper for 5 people with the 9.99? LOL doesn't make much sense, right?

I'm serious here. It does exist and I have it.

The SOC code is FTMSG999. It's called "Unlimited messages for Families". I really hope this helps.

If you upgrade to a new blackberry; you are suppose to get forced into the new data price which is 24.99, but if you speak with retentions, you may be allowed to keep the grandfathered plan.

Ugh, this is really true?

That's so dumb. Data is data, whether it's grandfathered or not.

I've the 19.99 bb plan for about a year, and I got the 9.99 text plan in June.

I upgraded in the middle of May and my plan didn't change.

Of course, I got the 9.99 plan in June, so I don't know about that changing, but I doubt it.

You could just call tmo and ask.

When you use an old phone or a phone not purchased from TM then you can use it without contract on the grandfathered plan.
You may have to get a contract and change of plan if you purchase a new phone from tm; NOT if you go to companies such as wirefly.com mobilecityonline.com

You can tell them that a "friend" of yours has the unlimited text plan for 9.99 dollars and JUST got it so you want it too. That's the excuse I used.

I can screenie my plan for you if you're not sure

It took me some time to get a rep who would do it for me.

Here are some tips...

1) Go to Retentions. Always.
2) say you have a friend who is with tmo and JUST got this 9.99 texting plan recently and now you want it too.
3) Stress that you are really trying to save money and this would REAAAAALLLLY be helping you out

I wish you lotsa luck!

well it was a no go.. She did say she could add it nd if it worked yeah... but if somehow in the future it had issues they could not credit me back the zillion texts i was charged for because I was told it could create billing problems by being a family plan.

She even went WAY back for me and tried a code from a special they had ions ago for cheaper text spcial.... but it would not take the code anymore no matter how many times she input the old individul promotion
