Default Got my 8900 for free from Wirefly but have Q

I chose the myfaves family plan and got two 8900 for free with a 2-yr contract.

I had no option to not add the BIS in order to get them for free. I suppose that's how they can offer them for free. I didn't mind adding the data for both lines because it was still cheaper monthly then my old VZW plan.

My wife doesn't really need the data and plan to remove it soon. Does TMO still allow smartphone/BB users to not add the data service? Or is it like Verizon now where it is required.

Also wirefly had this promotion where i can send in any old working phone get $50 for it. Does this promo really work?

As of june of this month all smart phones require a data pack to receive a smart phone at the discounted price be careful with wirefly because u are contracted with wirefly now if u change ur plan or cancel it will breach the contract between. U and wirefly. Ur wife will find uses for the data me n my girl never needed data but we got it to try and we never turned it off we both have the 8900 as well great device real nice choice

Yes.. since you got it through wirefly you are now obligated to what you signed up for and can't change it around .

The contract with wirefly is for 181 day in which i know i cant change to a lower plan or remove the data.

But after 181 days and wirefly receives their commission from TMO they could careless what i do. But just wanted to know if TMO makes it mandatory to have a data plan.

So its just like VZW, even if you remove it the system will automatically add it on again...

You can't have a smartphone w/o data plan...

To answer your other question, I sent a really old Nextel phonr (anyone remember the i1000? -- it was like 3 phones ago) when I converted to TMo/BB and I did get the $50 rebate. It took a while (8-10 weeks) but it did show up.

If you bought your phone from wirefly then you'll have to go by their rule. 2 years ago when i bought from a 3rd party, i believe it was 90 days. After that you can change your phone or remove features.

You most certainly do NOT have to have a data plan. Smartphone or not, it's a cell phone. I cancelled both mine and my fiancees data plans two months ago for both our blackberry's and recently added mine back. She still has just phone service and we have unlimited texts for families. With the wirefly deal, you can't get rid of the phone or downgrade during their allotted time frame or you are liable to owe them the full cost of the phone. I just got an 8900 through them as well.

okay, the data is only $25 and i used to pay $30 for VZW so its not bad and plan on keeping it as I use it all the time. As for my wife's 8900, we were planning to cancel the data after the 181 days from Wirefly but now she can't stop using it =P so at the moment its staying for a while.

Honestly my plan with TMO is still cheaper with both us having data compared to the previous VZW when only i had data.

As of the beginning of June all new activations and upgrades, if I'm not mistaken, are required to have a data plan. There is no way to remove this. On the T-Mobile website you can not unselect it from your list of services and if you call customer service you will most likely be told that it cannot be removed. The only Blackberry phones that are excluded from this requirement are the Pearl and Pearl Flip.
