Default Free Wi-Fi calling (UMA) NOW!

I highly suggest you all check out this article on TMoNews.com.

T-Mobile Unlimited Wi-Fi Calling Feature Going Live Tomorrow

You can currently activate the feature by calling or chatting with a T-Mobile rep. Great feature -- I'm really going to miss T-Mobile

Pretty much any phone that can do Wifi calling can use this. Only problem is, if you have a grandfathered plan, they will want to move you to a new plan. What this will do is two things, get you into a new contract AND (wait for it), move you from your current DATA cap of 10GB or 5GB, to a 2GB, before being throttled down to EDGE speeds if you go over the 2GB cap. So if you can live with the lower data cap, it's a good hedge on any changes that might come should At&t get into the cookie jar.

I don't think so. It's just an add on feature. There is no need for a contract extension. Now if you switched to the "Truly Unlimited" plan for unlimited everything for $79.99/mo then YES you'll be subject to the 2GB data cap. This is only for that plan. Now I can be wrong so please send a link to verify what you said.

Howdy Matt,

According to the three reps I talked to, for me to change my plan to add this, would extend my contract, basically starting a new 24 month contract the day the feature was added (which I just started a new contract in Jan of this year). Sorry no link, just what the reps said in any plan changes from grandfathered to add any other plan to get the free Wifi calling.

The plans they suggested would be the 500, 1000 or unlimited plan, all with N/W Unlimited, M2M and unlimited Txt/email. Also if I wished to add a second line, any family plan I added would do the same thing, take me from 5GB data cap, to 2GB data cap. Roomie has a really old grandfathered plan, which still shows a 10GB data cap (on the t-mobile side) and he would also have to change to a new plan, instantly knocking him down to a 2GB data cap before throttling. So I will have to assume that "current" plans, will not need the contract extension or change of plan.

Is this another way for TMO to lock you into another two year contract or to steer you away from our lovely grandfathered plans we have? That's what it sounds to me because if I want that feature, I'd have to extend my contract on all my BBs.

I'll be calling loyalty today to confirm this for myself. If this is the case, then its completely ridiculous. Why would the customer need to extend their contract? Calls are being made through a router not their network. As far as the 2GB goes, that is also completely ridiculous. I always call loyalty because they seem more knowledgable than regular CS reps.

The only plan that has the 2GB data cap is the new $79.99/mo PROMO plan. Every other plan is subject to a 5GB data cap. They removed the10GB data caps back in October, regardless if you were on an old contract.

Ah, didn't give loyalty a call, just the normal 611 reps. But that will be my next call. They all knew about the promo so that's a good thing, and I did say I wanted to lock it in, even if it didn't offer me anything that I can't do now. What I did think was nice is that they did at least let me know I would lose certain options if I changed my plan that I could not get back if I changed my mind a few hours/days later, not something reps often do in most cases.

Thank god I have had UMA for awhile now....don't really want to change much till I find out what is going to happen with this ATT merger. I will say if and when I do upgrade it will probably be under ATT at that time and will change my plan, guarantee it and my credit isn't exactly top-notch and I know I will be paying out the wahzoo for a new phone....and will be on 3 at the time.

So hoping either something happens with this merger or they won't charge me an arm and a leg for down-payments or deposits, whatever it is....

Howdy Bear! Long time no talk foo'!

If I DIDN'T already have this feature FREE on my Grandfathered plan i think I would opt to just go ahead and pay the $9.99 fee instead of changing plans.

It's a great deal at 9.99 if you use it alot and grandfathered family plan.

I know my account still has it as a paid option for the family

When I was reading the article it stated that T-Mobile was only doing this for Android phones for now. Has someone added this for a Blackberry yet? Looking to Jump from Sprint this summer as soon as the new OS7 devices come out and T-Mobile has the price advantage and the WiFi calling would be great.

It's already available for BlackBerry (see previous post in this thread). My boyfriend added it to his account and it already works properly.

The feature is free, BUT you do need to have one of the current plans to add it (Even More, Even More Plus, or 4G Do More). The only one that requires a contract extension is the 4G Do More or the promotional Truly Unlimited. Switching from a grandfathered plan to regular Even More or Even More Plus only requires you to ride out your current contract (if you have one). Hope this helps.

I'm thinking MAYBE loyalty would add it free to your grandfathered , if you sweet talk them and agree to extend.

I KNOW it is compatible for grandfathered people because some of us have it.
