Just another reason my T-Mobile loyalty is fastly fading away...

If VZW gets a NEW Storm or a Torch-like device, I'm going to make the switch.

If I'm going to pay fee's for everything and nearly the same price for services, I may as well be with a carrier that actually has coverage everywhere I go.

T-Mobile seems to be doing away with every reason anyone has stayed with them thus far.

Doesn't really do much in my opinion. I intend to use my wifi hotspot via 3rd party. Btw it works great on hspa+. Data is data and since I'm staying under 5GB, how will t-mobile know? Answer: they won't.

I already pay for data and stay within the limits so I'm going to tether on my own.

Btw, with the tethering add-on, you're still restricted to 5GB.

I can't justify spending that. Especially when I tether already for free.

That's honestly really lame...this is one of the things T-Mobile had an advantage in over the other providers.

Yeah I agree. It really stinks. I used to like to be able to tether and not have it be illegal. I knew that reps would promote a lot of phones as being able to tether.

Bummer ......that is the only thing that T-Mobile had going for it. So let me understand, if we stay under 5 gigs, we don't have to pay for the Tethering plan or do we? I am confused. I would think even under 5 gigs that you still would have to pay. Or is this only for 3G and HSPA+? Is EDGE exempt???

Exactly. When I got my first BlackBerry, the rep was like "Did you know you could use your BlackBerry as a modem for free?" and another one said a similar when I got my 9700.

I think this is all being done because of the Android's coming out with Hotspot capabilities. Oh well.

You have to pay for it even if you stay under 5 gigs.

You have to pay for it even if you stay under 5 gigs.

I read in one of the articles today that this could be some T-Mobile backlash from the recent 5 gig cap that they got in trouble with. I kinda knew this was coming though. You didn't expect them to keep free tethering while offering HSPA+ did you?

T-Mobile might be doing this also because of all the tablets and pads that will be coming out in the near future.

I only tethered a few times in the past six months, but it definitely does suck knowing that it's not there anymore without another fee.

I'm kinda in the same boat. The CS and pricing has kept me with T-Mo for nearly six years now, but I'm seriously considering a move to VZW at the end of my contract in a couple of months. I don't tether much anymore, but it was nice to have that option.

I see that they mention the G2 but I'm assuming this data tethering is for all smartphones right? This is a BIG blow for me since I rely on tethering and so does my niece and sister. I just recently got them their own 9700s because I told them you can tether for free. With three BBs, that's another $45 to my bill and with six lines under contract, I have nowhere to go because I'm not paying $1,200 on ETFs.

T-Mobile is probably doing this because they want people to buy their WebConnect USB modems.

So folks, report back after the new plans drop to see if tethering can still be done w/o adding on.
