Angry Even More Plus Plan Frustration

So I am waiting for the upcoming Blackberry BOLD 9780, have now since August. I am on T-Mobile's Even More Plus which is lower monthly costs but higher phone prices. I understand that this is how the system works however what I do not understand is why they won't let me go back on contract. I do not have $450 to slam down on a phone. $149-$199 is fine but that requires a new contract and T-Mobile said I cannot go on contract. I find this completely ridiculous and I told them I would go to AT&T to which they replied "we're very sorry but this is our policy"

Some things just don't make sense. Been with T-Mo for 5 years now and AT&T is more expensive but I don't understand why I couldn't go back on contract. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? Will see what BOLD 9780 prices go for on eBay new but I am sure they'll be in the $400 range.

Did they tell you why you can't get a contract?

They said once you switch to an Even More Plus plan you are not eligible to be on a contract ever again. Makes no sense.

I've heard that before too, it is totally bizarre. If I ever want to go back on contract they are saying they want me to sign with another carrier.

Yup then its their loss. I will try calling once the BOLD 9780 is officially released with them and see what they can do. Ya never know you might get that one rep.

I've been very happy with T-Mobile's service but this makes no sense. Will more than likely go to AT&T.

How do you use your phone? Email? Web browsing? AT&T is fine.

Want to make a phone call and stay connected during the call?
Need customer service and don't like hearing, "Why not call someone who give a crap"?

You may not like AT&T

Break it up into payments. You don't have to slam down $450. You'll save money in the long run too.

If you break the full cost of the phone into payments, it will be $22.50 per month. The contracted version of the plan you're on, assuming it's a single line, it $20 more. This means you're paying an extra $2.50 a month for 20 months, but you're not paying the $200 cost on the phone. That means you pay less money, it's just distributed differently.

The reason why they don't let you go back to contract is because risk of abuse. They don't want ppl to be able to get a discounted phone and then switch the cheaper plan and back and whatnot. That's my guess at least.

Norris's advice is correct. You pay around 20 more a month for 20 months and the phone gets paid off.

Sounds like great advice. However I don't quite get what you mean by 'contracted version and extra $2.50/mo. If I break up the payments of the phone each month it would still balance out in the end and be the $450. Yes I have 1 line.

You do sound correct. Didn't think of it this way. Don't they still make more if people sign contracts?

If you break the $450 full cost into 20 payments, it breaks down to $22.50 more per month. The Even More version of any Even More Plus plan which includes internet is $20 more per month. This leaves a difference of $2.50 per month which you would pay for being on EM+. However, this means you do not pay the $200 for the phone on EM, which works out to less money overall

I gotcha, thanks for clarifying. How is T-Mobile's 3G network? I have never used it before. How does it compare to AT&T's? Faster? Slower? Thanks

Assuming the 9780 is HSPA+ capable, it's the fastest in the country. TMO was late to the 3G party, but has bounced back with some fast speeds since their expansion. With the exception on the 9700, I've had excellent call quality and very few dropped calls overall

There's an AT&T section here on Crackberry and also an AT&T section at Howard Forums, you might take a look...

Didn't see HSPA+ only HSDPA?
