| | Email delayed when running UMA
Initially, I noticed I *always* received a bulk of emails whenever leaving the house. Then I noticed that while working at home, many emails already in Outlook hadn't appeared on my t-mobile Curve yet. And yes, I have the hotspot service.
One afternoon, after turning off WiFi and watching the UMA icon be replaced with EDGE, another bunch of emails came in.
This is repeatable, and I've also observed that if I leave the phone in UMA mode, emails seem to come in batches usually at 30 minutes past the hour.
I would have thought UMA would improve my connectivity, but in fact just the opposite is occurring. Any thoughts?

What kind of router do you have? Who are your emails through? There maybe a setting in the router. I know when I'm on some hotspots, my texting is delayed and that is due to firewall and port restrictions. If it is a T-Mobile router, tech support will be able to troubleshoot it.

From that domain, I send out three copies of each email, one to a POP box, one to a gmail account and one to my tmo.blackberry.net account. The POP and gmail messages show up immediately, while the tmo.blackberry.net email doesn't show up on my Blackberry until *MUCH* later.
As I mentioned in my original post, turning off WiFi, which leaves EDGE, results in an immediate download of all delinquent messages. Quote:

No, it's something in the T-Mobile network or Blackberry firmware that doesn't know you're on-line if in UMA mode, but does know if you're on-line when in EDGE mode.
And so far, after 30 minutes of t-mobile tech time, they've walked me through every script they have (turn on and off, remove battery to reboot, etc.) but since they've "never seen that before", they haven't been able to help.
I'm just wondering if anyone else is observing this behavior?

Thats odd. I have a setup similar to yours. When on uma or edge it seems my @tmo.blackberry.net email comes faster than gmail imap setup. Although it isnt much faster. My pop accounts also come in after the blackberry one. Just out of curiousity...has this always been the case and is it always 30 minute delay for all accounts?

It was only recently that I observed backing out of the driveway caused a flurry of messages. And I'm sorry, but I think you misunderstood ... It's not a 30 minute delay, it's just that all delinquent emails seem to come in around 30 minutes after the hour - Although now I'm seeing these delays coming in anytime.
Looking at the attached photo, following is a summary of POP arrive time vs. T-Mobile arrive time:
Wells Fargo 10:28PM 09:46PM
Costco 10:28PM 10:28PM <- Delivered immediately!
GoDaddy 10:28PM 09:52PM
Aircraft 07:48PM 07:01PM
johnstewa 07:48PM 06:02PM
... and so on. So as you can see, I'm getting times from immediate email to 106 minute delay!
It's not a huge problem as I usually read POP mail at home, and Blackberry mail on the road - And as long as I'm not in a hotspot, my Blackberry mail seems to arrive on time.
Dang, I was really hoping someone else was experiencing this UMA delay.

Whoh, that is some serious delay there. I agree with you. That has got to be a TMo issue. No way a router is causing that.

I had the exact opposite problem. I would only get my e-mails when connected to UMA and nothing when connected to EDGE. Turns out after a call to customer service, they ended up transferring me to Blackberry support who reset something on their end and all was well.

In your case, you're comparing Blackberry email under UMA vs. Blackberry email under EDGE.
My issue is that I get emails whether UMA or EDGE, just that while in UMA mode the emails can be delayed. It could be a Blackberry firmware issue *OR* a T-MOBILE network issue.

Since you have pretty much tried everything else I would go with an OS upgrade. What version are you on now? There is .124 official release out and a .153 beta thats out too. I run them both.

The 124 is officail just not from Tmo. Get it here http://forums.crackberry.com/f52/new...-124-a-137573/
153 is a beta get it here http://forums.crackberry.com/f95/new...320-br-239319/
I am now running 153 on one device, 124 on another, and a 153/163 hybrid I just made. I do remember that I did have uma issues with 81...but it was mainly a handover issue. I would go for 124 or 153...both are very stable run faster and have more file free. Feel free to pin me or pm if you need more help.

| | I have never notice a delay using UMA or EDGE.
I have just now tested a message to my POP, Gmail and BIS accounts.
Gmail and BIS arrived in seconds, the POP message will be retrived on the next cycle. This is usually 15 min, but can be faster is there was mail on the previous poll.
I am using the same OS version, 4.5.0.81.

Yesterday, I did a complete wipe of my phone, reinstalled all the data but *none* of the apps, hoping one of them might be the cause. It wasn't - Ten (!) messages came in at 2:19AM PDT - Messages that arrived in my POP/web boxes between 12:20AM and 1:39AM.
So ...
1. The problem is repeatable.
2. Installed apps aren't the cause.
3. A clean wipe doesn't fix the problem.
4. I'm not ready to install an "East Asia" OS just yet.
Is there anything else I should be trying?

| | UMA Emails are batched, not sent immediately
I'm still experiencing delayed emails under UMA, but no delay when away from a hotspot. I've tried wiping my Blackberry 8320 clean (no apps installed) and the problem recurs. So Monday I went out and bought a newer Curve 8900 - SAME PROBLEM!
In my mind, the problem is either BB firmware or T-MOBILE network issues. And changing phones doesn't rule out firmware because the 8320 and 8900 probably share some code. Nevertheless, I'm leaning toward suspecting T-MOBILE.
Does anyone else live in a fringe area and use UMA? OR more specifically, are there any T-MOBILE BB customers in 95682?
This is driving me nuts.
