Default EDGE & edge

So what's the difference between EDGE and Edge? I notice sometimes they change but I'm not really sure how they effect my BlackBerry.

EDGE is voice+SMS+high speed data, GPRS is voice+SMS+low speed data, edge/gprs are voice+SMS (no data).
