Default Does TMobile now have additional charge for tethering?

I have an 8320 with the data plan for web and email. I downloaded desktop 5.1 which has the modem options. Actually I first looked for "tethering" and found a free app "Mobi somthing". Downloaded it and it made some changes to the permissions area in my BB. Then I was instructed to download the newest BB desktop manager which went without a hitch. I hooked my my BB with the USB cable, opened up the new version pc desktop manager, chose "connect" on the modems section after making sure that "Tmobile usa" was chosen in the intial config screen. When I hit connect, it said it was connected but cannot get IE explorer to see anything. It comes up with message that I need a data plan ( which I already have) for an additional $30:00. I already pay $39.95 for a data plan. What am I doing wrong? Or has Tmobile finally started to charge for tethering?

Same here. I use my 8900 with no problems. Check out this web site.

This is good software.

I've been tethering quite a bit and I haven't gotten any charges. Data is data.

Which screen or application told you that you (still) need a data plan? The T-Mobile USA configuration in BB Desktop Manager should have all the settings to tether using your data plan. If you want to double-check the settings, in Windows go to Start->Control Panel, double-click Phone And Modem Options, click the Modems tab, double-click on Standard Modem COM4, and click the Advanced tab. The "Extra initialization commands:" field should have the exact string shown below.

+cgdcont=1,"IP","epc.tmobile.com"

Then go to Start->Connect To->Show All Connections, right-click on T-Mobile US and choose Properties. On the General tab there should be a checkmark next to Standard Modem (COM4), a checkmark next to "All devices call the same numbers", and the phone number should be *99#

I don't remember which screen I was at where the price came up. I spent a lot of time since trying to connect which I could but could not get IE to work. Then I tried "Tetherberry" the trial version. Same results- it connects but IE cannot display any web stuff. So, I have a ticket into "Tether" to try to resolve. I must be doing something stupid somewhere there. Ya know the saying "in the forest but can't see the trees" . ahhahaha
But, my patience is being tested. hahahahaha

We hooked up an 8120 to DM and was able to tether it to a PC using Firefox browser. We didn't try IE though. But, we were able to tether it on EDGE and on WiFi as well at no charge.

I have tried to tether with both Internet explorer 8.0 as well as Firefox 3.6. Oh well. I sent all the info on the BB and pc screens to Tether tech support and am waiting for a response.

I believe you tether your phone when it's connect through wifi.

Kind of pointless really...you could just connect your laptop to the wifi and it would be faster.

We did this as a test. It could be useful if you lose your wireless on your laptop. Again, this was a test that we did as education for us.
