| | Does T-Mobile know what phone you're using when you call Cust Service?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am a brand new Curve owner and I wanted to try and get the $10 Web2Go plan for non-smartphones added to my account because I read in other posts that many BB users were able to use the Web2Go predecessor, T-Zones, with their BBs, and not the BB Data Plan. My previous phone was a plain old Samsung (non-smartphone) which was still in my mytmobile profile. I was able to select the Web2Go plan online but it never kicked in on my account. So after waiting for 24 hours, I called Customer Service and they said I had selected the wrong data plan for my phone. How did they know I was using a BB Curve when I never changed it in my profile? I really dont want to have to pay for the $40 BB data plan since I dont need email, I just want internet access.

Did you upgrade to the Curve or, did you purchase one without contract from somewhere else?

2. did you have a voice plan through T-Mobile before you tried to activate the Web2Go plan? (process of elimination)

Yes, I had a voice plan. I've been a customer since 2003 I think.

3. Most important - did you simply take the SIM card out of your "dumb phone" and place it in your BB?

Perhaps, this is where I made the fatal mistake. When I selected the plan online, I didnt take the SIM card out and put it in a dumb phone. I didnt actually do that until I called CS to see why it wasnt active yet.

Wierd, I believe they don't know... I mean, when you're calling them, they can't tell until after you're conversation.
I called 'em last week and told them I got a new Nokia XM5800 and they asked me if I was on it right now but I was on my 8900 Curve.

Gosh, what a dummy I am! You're right, they must have pinged it while the SIM was still in the BB. Thanks for helping me diagnose how they found out.
ClintRo: Good suggestion! I will try that!

To answer the question easily. It doesn't matter what carrier the phone is from, we know what phone your using. It can be even an iPhone. It shows us in your account.

everytime you use your simcard on a phone. and you turn your phone on,it registers a unique numbered id. called an IMEI or ESN into your account.
all the companies have a database of IMEI's or ESN's which tells them what kind of phone you are using.
so if you want to get that $10 whatever you call it.then use a non-smartphone and then call tmobile or whatever company you are using and tell them you want that put on there.
after adding that in there then just switch to your bb phone.
GOODLuck!

All Cell Phone Carriers know what phone you using on their Network. The GSM Phones have IMEI numbers. CMDA phones had an ESN or Electronic Serial Number. The IMEI or ESN are the Phones ID Numbers on the network.
