| | Desperate times...
apparently call for desperate measures.
A friend just recommended tracfone to me as a replacement for my TMO contract if this merger goes bad.
This situation is bad, but not that bad lol...what do you guys think?
Desperate enough to jump to pay as you go?

What about Sprint? They are cheaper than VZW and AT&T.

i've known several people who've had them and they can be in a big city (as in Kansas City, MO) and be roaming. Also, their coverage map is lacking IMO.
Plus the fact that everyone I know has been screwed over bill-wise by them.
I'll wait and see how all this goes...but def not getting a pay as you go. I'm 25. I don't want a high school phone.

I was a Boy Scout so I'm all for being prepared for anything and everything. But this issue isn't something to be worried about anytime soon. It still needs to be approved by a few agencies (read: it might not happen at all). Att and Tmobile also haven't said anything about how it will affect their customers.
So why is everyone so worried about this? It seems pathetic and quite desperate to even worry about this at all yet.
I'd be more concerned with building a nuclear fallout shelter in your backyard than worrying about how your contract will change 18 months (or longer) from now...

sorry if you think we're all "pathetic" for wondering about all this, but this is our opinion and if you don't like it, then don't click on the threads about the merger...we're all just wondering and waiting.
i'll do what i'm gonna do, and you do what you're gonna do.

Do you know what phone you'll be using 12-18 months from now?
Sprint is improving their network daily. For all you know, Sprint could be the biggest and best carrier in the US in 12-18 months (not likely, but anything can happen). Att/Tmobile might be the biggest, best, and cheapest carrier in the US too, you might get a better deal with a better plan.
The thing is, nobody knows what this merger will bring, I bet the executives for each company don't even know how this will all play out. So why are you worried about something you have zero control over, when you won't even have to think about it for at least another 18 months?
Have you ever heard of Alltel? Verizon merged (bought) them in 2008, and Att acquired about the rest in 2009. There's still Alltel service in some states, do some googling if you need to. So once again you're better off building that fallout shelter in the backyard than worrying about this...
And I know exactly what I'm gonna do, stick with the nation's best carrier and laugh at all you who are worried about your beloved Tmobile and its appending demise. And I know exactly what you're going to be doing, worrying about something you have zero control over...

I would not recommend AT&T in NYC at this time, but by the time the merger happens their coverage might be better.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | i had ATT 6 months and honestly they have the best network, unfortunately they're also very proud of it and charge high rates.
And the title of this thread was sarcasm. sorry if some of you missed that.

everyone wants cheaper prices, but i won't sacrifice the device exclusives, the network coverage and the assurance that my wireless provider will always be around for lower prices.

I don't like this merger either but I don't think it will be as bad as we all think I know that Tmo is great, that's why I'm still with Tmo, but how bad can AT&T make it so that you have to get a tracfone?
If it ends up being really bad you don't have to go to Sprint or Verizon, there are other smaller carriers, at least here in VA there are.

i'd rather go with a larger carrier who is going to get a good selection of phones. for instance, the friend who recommended tracfone to me said that they dont' have a smart phone option at this time...i'm sorry i'm not going back to a dumbphone after BB and iphone.
and i just moved here so i'm not sure of my smaller company options. everyone i know has ATT or TMO. i'd rather go with verizon who i know is going to get halfway decent phones than wait for a small company to catch up.
and for me, personally, "how bad ATT can make it" is if they don't give back unlimited data. if that's not an option at the end of this, forget it.

TMO has been low for quite some time, but ATT I feel is just using the whole "we have to pay for our network" as an excuse to charge high fees. verizon and sprint are also paying for networks and you don't see them taking away basic options and charging ridiculous rates for voice plans.
