Default Data Requirement & Change of Responsibility

Hello,

I am planning to move out of a family plan into an individual plan. I currently have the data requirement on my phone. What will happen to that requirement? Will it follow me into the new account? Or will it stay active on my old account?

Also, what happens if I sell this phone before the requirement is completed. I was told by the store rep when I bought this phone that it will only stay as long as I use the 8900 with my SIM. Is this true? Doesn't sound like it is.

If that is indeed true, if I swap the SIM with my brother's SIM (no data plan on his line), will it deactive on my line and he will be able to use the phone without a data plan?

I am not trying to get around the data plan requirement as I need it and something I get reimbursed for by my company. I would like to know some details is all.

Thanks

The data requirement is mandatory on phones like Blackberry / the G1/2. It will follow you into your new plan.

You can sell your phone, but your data plan will not automatically drop. You will either have to edit your add-on's via TMO website or by calling CS.

Your brother's service will be updated with the data plan, if he puts his SIM card into your phone, on the next bill.

My advice would be to keep a data plan on the family plan you're on now so brother can use the phone, and then if you don't want it on yours, drop it and get a new phone when you sign the new, individual contract.

Thanks for the response. So the rep at the store was right. I will only need it if I have the phone in my account. So I guess my last question is this, if I sell it & another person gets TMO service with my phone, will they get the data plan? I believe with TMO you can have a BB without a data plan requirement unless it was required when you purchased it correct?

Correct. The data package is only required if you purchase the phone with a contract. Using such a phone without a contract extension and subsequent discount does not require the data. Same applies if you buy it at a store, but pay the retail (Non-discounted) price.
