| | Data plan help
Couple questions on data...
I keep hearing about the blackberry 19.99 data plan. however, looking at tmos site, i don't see it at all...?
Also, what is with the 9.99 generic data plan? Is that unlimited?
Finally, can you add a data plan to a prepaid plan?
Some advice: I honestly don't use many minutes at all, but i use sms and internet *wifi now*. What voice and data plan for tmo would be the cheapest that gives me data but not many minutes? The reason i have prepaid is b/c i don't use many minutes...but the only problem is that sms is killing off my minutes. that said..you can't add an sms plan to a prepaid can you? which brings me back to the voice+data option.
Thanks!

The $19.99 plan expired long ago. You have to remember that many people on this site are cell phone nuts (myself included) and because they've been around for a LONG time, they have grandfathered rate plans. Frequently people here refer to plans they have that aren't offered to the general public anymore.
I used to have the $19.99 "all-you-can-eat" rate plan on my pre-BlackBerry phones principally because I tethered my phone and my computer a lot when I was on the road.
My current data plan with unlimited everything is something like thirty something dollars a month and again is unlimited. I can't believe that there is anything currently out there that would be less than this because T-Mobile tends to make sure their oldest customers get their best rate plans and I've been a T-Mobile customer for a long time.
I've never heard of any $9.99 plan but if there is such a thing, I'd have to believe it is intented for wap and not full internet so it would be useless with a BlackBerry.
Your best bet is to call customer service and explain your needs and get their recommendations as to the best approach for you. None of this is rocket science and getting the best current rate plan is usually pretty straightforward.

ah. Thanks for the questions. TMO cs has been spotty this past week for some reason. I keep getting disconnected, held..first time its ever happened.
Thanks for the input on the data plan. I don't think i want to spend 60 dollars a month *voice + data* for minutes i don't use. I just want basic minutes, and data+sms. Does anyone also have any opinions?
As for the the generic data plan...itsn't it 9.99 for a normal data plan...or was this grandfathered too..?
Thanks berrite for your help.

The 9.99 is unlimited data for dumbphones. It's not grandfathered but it's not a BB plan, so you won't get push email and such.
The current unlimited data + unlimited minutes is 34.99 a month. If you look at it, it's basically the 19.99 for data and 14.99 for unlimited text. Not too bad if you ask me. Other carriers will charge 50+, and lots more if you plan to tether.
If you really don't use many minutes, why not consider a data-only plan? They have one available for BB...it's 39.99 and you can add text to it.

There is nothing really "cheap" for somone in yur situation. I think tmo's best pricing is geared toward people who use LOTS of minutes.
maybe you could look up the old $29 300 minute plan and then call and beg them for it. get all your facts straight and then say your parents or relative has it and yu would like it too if they can possibly do that. Just be sickly sweet. then tend to bend more easy when you talk about relatives that have a certain feature.

The 29.99 plan for 300 min still exists...so you don't have to call retentions.
so that's 30 + 35 (data and text) = 65 plus taxes.

Thanks! | Not real familiar with prepaids... but what about that PagePlus or Boost Mobile prepaid ? Both are pretty cheap and have data usage plans

Oh, I forgot to mention, there was an old 9.99 BB plan out there that ppl sometimes talk about..it was email only though. It may have included web browsing but def no data for apps or BBM.
It's gone now though.

So the bottom line is I can't add anything to prepaid right?

Well you can get data on a flexpay plan. That's for sure.
It's like prepaid in that there are no contracts and you pay upfront for service.
If you want data, you may want to look into flexplay. It has the same plans as postpaid.

I've looked at flexpay, I'm confused. You pay a dollar a day..and additional minutes like 20 cebts or something? Could someone explain this?
Called tmo rep. First time I got an ***** that said flexplay was a comparable blackberry plan. I hung up.
