Default Craigslist Scam for T-Mobile 8900?

Check this link out on Craigslist. I'm concerned that this might be a scam:

TMOBILE JAVELIN (BLACKBERRY 8900)

I've been texting this guy and he states that, he will notify "his T-Mobile rep" and this person will credit my t-mobile account for the price of a Curve 8900. I need to then purchase this phone with the credit on my account and then it will be express shipped to me. Once that is the case, then I need to use western union or money to pay this seller $200. I have continuosly asked him if he lives in town or near me and he has not answered the question yet. Does this seem suspicious to anyone else as well?

If it sounds like a scam, its probably a scam. Good luck either way.

I recommend to everyone on this site to not purchase a BlackBerry from Craigslist. There has been countless problems for members here who have, the majority of the time the device is stolen or the ESN is locked because the previous owner did not pay their bill...

I have actually sold several of my phones (including blackberry's) as well as purchased them from Craigslist. I've only been "scammed" once and that was my fault for not putting my Sim card (was with T-Mobile at the time) in to test that it actually worked.

My suggestion if you're buying a phone is to have the person meet you at your local store to have the phone checked before you purchase. If it's legit, they won't have a problem with it and you'll have piece of mind you're not buying an expensive paperweight......

I wouldn't do it. Sounds like a scam to me.

Plus, even though I'm not a Craigslist buyer (I prefer eBay due to the PayPal guarentee), I'm not too sure about Craigslist after it's made the news 2x in the past year!

1- Craigslist Killer
2- Earlier this month, made the news for people robbing others at gunpoint when they go to meet up. (just freaks me out even if I am able to carry a guy)

Definitely a scam! I just recently traded my PSP for a LG Voyager. I got super lucky. They even drove over 2 hours to meet me at the Verizon store in my hometown. We texted for two days before anything was set up. But like the others have said, some people aren't as lucky!! I've dealt with craigslist a few times to get phones. I've used Ebay once. But lately the sellers on Ebay are JACKING UP the prices of phones! Like it's crazy! I always check CB marketplace first if I'm looking to buy or sell a Blackberry.

Def a scam. You should only deal locally and pay in cash for a PHYSICAL phone, not a credit.

Stay far away from this transaction. Listen to CB nation, were all saying the same thing.

Not to pile on, since we've established that its a scam...

Seriously, do you really think a T-Mo rep would credit your account for a new phone, and not send it to you? They would count on some Craigslist dude to complete the transaction via Western Union?

Kudos to you for being suspicious enough to ask the question, but honestly, I hope you knew the answer before you posted!

Generally, anything that involves western union is a scam, unless of course it's sending money between family members or some such.

Definetely scam, Same thing happened to me, and he actually told me he had a store in NY, and IL. He said that he could just credit my account, I could go to the store pick it up, and wire him the money. He gave me some lame excuse about needing my mytmoible password, so I gave it to him, to see how he was going to try and manage this. He went on my tmobile account (couldnt make any changes, trust me!) and made a payment on my account, that go figure, BOUNCED I knew this was too good to be true when he said he had a store, but since I worked for tmobile, I wanted to get as much info as I could. I gave all the info to Craiglist, and let them take it from there, not sure if its the EXACT same guy, but sure sounds like it. Good Call!
