Default Cost to upgrade to an 8900

I had my dad email our rep to see how much it would cost me to get an 8900 and she said $429.99... I don't think that's right though.

I do only extend my contract for a year because I usually want a new phone by the end of the year. However, I didn't have any money back in April when it was due for my upgrade so I just kept my Curve.. now I have money and wanted to upgrade but apparently I don't get a discount any more?

So... does anyone know how much it's supposed to be? My dad called her to see what she says but I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks the price should be

$430 sounds about right to me. You don't get that much of a discount when you're upgrading. I know. I wanted the 8900 also but I'm not paying that. I believe you get like $70 but then you'll pay an $18 upgrade fee so you're actually only getting only $52 which I think it's bullcrap. For that price, you might as well go on eBay and purchase an unlocked one so you won't end up extending your contract. I hate how they make it seem like you're getting a great deal.

I just upgraded to the 8900 on Monday and it was about $430. They offered me some deal where they could take $120 of it and split it up over 3 payments and add it to your bill so you might ask about that to drop your out of pocket cost if you don't mind adding $40 a month to your next 3 bills. I didn't use it so I don't know if there's any fee for it though.

Yes, $149 is correct with a two year agreement and a qualifying plan. They give you an instant savings of $350.

Every 22 months you are eligible for a FULL discount. Full meaning the two year price that you see in stores and online. Anything before that 22 months is only a PARTIAL discount, saving you only 50-70 bucks off of the retail price. The 8900 has a retail price of 499.99. By extending your contract by two years and taking the partial discount, you pay 429.99. If you have an equipment credit line, you have the opportunity to pay less in store that day and over the next three months pay out the rest with the equipment installation plan. There's no interest either.

Hmm. That's a bummer then. When I bought my Curve it was only a $50 difference between the year & 2 year upgrade/extension.
Was this a recent change? Cause I always just extended a year and she gave me a spreadsheet of how the prices. I should see if I still have that email

I'm really tired of my Curve too. It's a little beat up so I guess I'll just buy a new housing or maybe switch to another carrier...

Edit:
I found the email, and I got my curve for $350 with a $50 rebate [that I never mailed in] but the no contract price was $450 so I saved $100. 2 year extension was $300 with $50 rebate... Blah.

As long as you are on a qualifying T-Mobile monthly plan, you can get a full discount after 11 months on a 1-yr contract or after 22 months on a 2-yr contract. I ran into this problem when I tried to upgrade my line because the CSR insisted that it was after 22 months even on a 1-yr contract. It wasn't until I spoke with the supervisor that the CSR figured it out.

Only a year and a half to go! Looking forward to the Driftwood or it's follow up. But loving the 8900!!! I did use my 2 year upgrade so I got it for 299-100 MIR which I did get. And they broke up the 299 over 4 payments. Very awesome!

That makes sense, Thank you. I'll have to ask her about that. If you don't extend your contract when the year is up.. do they automatically extend it for you?
I'll have to see what she says about that. My dad uses the same rep for our family as he does for his work so hopefully she knows.

Be careful when assuming that you get the full In-House price after your 22 month contract. I thought this when I got my ZN5 (btw killer camera). It was suposed to be free but come to find out it was 149.

I just ordered my 8900 for 0$ (yes a 2 yr. extension) , after having my 8700g for a while this will be a nice upgrade.
