Default Considering on Leaving T-Mobile

I've been a long time reader and new poster. Time to get move involved.

I've been with T-Mobile for 5 years and called today to find out when my contract expires. I got transfered to Retentions and they offered me $149.99 for the Curve 8900 and also the G1 Phone. I almost said yes to the 8900 but I could get an Iphone for $99 now. I did not want to commit to another 2-years while Verizon and AT&T get top of the line phones. And I'm still stuck on EDGE. :-P

I am disappointed with spotty data service which has been increasing my desire to switch to AT&T but I hear many horror stories about their service and hidden fees. What would you fellow Crackberrys suggest?

You'll pay the difference with that $99 iphone after you get a few bills and see the higher rates.

Like any cell provider it depends on where in the country you are. I have been with them since they were VoiceStream and have never had even one dropped call that was service related (a few with the wifi dropping off only). I also have never had a bill that was inaccurate and have always upgraded my phones with the special price 6 months before my contract expires. You couldn't pay me to leave T-Mobile when my friends on other networks always complain. Now, if I moved from where I live I may find bad reception, but thats true with any of the providers.

As for the iphone... you will hate it if you are coming from a Blackberry. Say goodbye to running more then 1 app at once. You will have to log out of your IM application just to check your mail or look up a phone number. Also, no more picture messages (althoug they may have fixed that in the new iphone 3gX or whatever its called.

That is a dumb reply. He'll know well ahead of time what his bill will be, afterall he picks the plan at the start of the process. If you have spotty service then go ahead and switch. If the phone selection was ur only reason then that would be a bad reason to switch. As for hidden fees, I don't know what ur talking about.
Ask friends who have other carriers to see what their service is like. The maps posted on the carrier's site should be taken lightly...

It seems as if he is trying to save. Idk. I'm just stating that you may save $50 on a phone now. But in the long run, t-mobile is cheaper.

Stick to TMO. I can't see myself leaving a Blackberry for an iPhone. I love how I can run different apps at one time. That $99 would turn into $1200 in just data($30) and unlimited text($20) compare to TMOs Blackberry Unlimited plus Unlimited Text, Picture, I'm, etc. for $35 a month. It's $360 less over the two-year contract with TMO. AT&T can't touch TMO on that. If you have a wireless router at home, jump on WiFI with your Berry to boost up your signal if you're having issues with your signal at home. Yes, you can do that with UMA. Try doing that with AT&T. Once TMO goes national with their 3G, you'd want to come back after AT&T has raped you with their expensive plans.

Can you elaborate on that? I've had the worst experience with TMobile ever!

Basically every 3rd to 4th call gets dropped for bad reception. I thought it was the phone (BB Pearl 8100) so I upgraded OS from 4.2 to 4.5 but the problem is still there. At home the phone is OK but the BB internet is horrible, so I would like to boost up my signal!

If you are in an area where T-Mobile already has their 3G coverage up than the G1 may be a good choice since it is a 3G phone. I have a Curve but my fiance has the G1 and it is a very nice phone. The browser is similar to the one on the iPhone and the touchscreen along with full keyboard is a nice feature that it has. However the G1 is a little awkward to hold because of the way the home keys are on the bottom. I've tried typing on it a few times but it doesn't feel right. I hear that they are coming out with one that doesn't have that across the bottom the way it is now though; I just don't know when it is being released (or if this rumor is true or not.)

In reality the final decision is up to you.

If you have poor service(I don't have poor service but it was good to know) at home, I was told that I could get a wireless router and enable my WiFi on my phone. The phone will pick up the wireless signal from your router and you can make calls. The router would boost up the signal so you can have better coverage at home. Remember, at home. When you leave your phone with WiFi enabled, it will detect the signal at your house. Once your phone leaves the wireless coverage, it'll automatically switch over to the TMO network. Please note that while at home, minutes will still be deducted unless you get the Unlimited HotSpot Calling for $9.99 add-on, you can talk unlimited at home. I've been thinking of doing that at home since my Blackberry Curve 8320 has WiFi. It'll save you on minutes. Now, your Blackberry has WiFi. Take advantage of it by getting a router and use the WiFi on your phone to browse the internet. It's way faster also.

Thanks for everyone's input. I think I'll try call retentions again and see if I can get the 8900 for $99.

Has anyone had such luck?
