Default Cheaper data/text?

Is there a way to get cheaper unlimited data/text for the BB? Seriously... $90 is pretty steep just for an 8100 Pearl. I could switch to AT&T and get an iPhone for that much a month. Or I could use an unlocked iPhone with Tmo for cheaper than the BB.

Could I just keep the registered phone on the website the way it is and get a cheaper data plan that way? Such as, taking off my Unlimited Text (14.99/mo) and replacing it with 100mb + Unlimited Text (19.99). That'd be real web, not web2go, correct? I could download OperaMini and setup email and it'd all work?

Thanks in advance.

MyFaves 300 = $39.99
BlackBerry Unlimited Web + Unlimited Messages = $34.99
Subtotal = $74.98/mo
Extra Monthly Fees = ~$8.00
Total = ~$82.98

So... $82. Not $90. Heh.

Maybe I'm not totally understanding your post, techken.

Say I pull out my BlackBerry right now. Let's say my current phone has the $19.99/mo internet/messaging plan. With my BB, would I be able to simply insert my SIM and hop on the web and email?

I have the same plan as you (voice plan and data/messaging plan). I agree that the cost is a bit steep and I'd love to get something else...

I don't think the 100 mb would be enough for me though...

I'm not sure to any extent whatsoever how much 100mb is in web page terms. I know 100mb is only 1/10th of a gig, so I assume not much. But I have no clue. And I don't know if that changes when you use OperaMini versus RIM's ****-poor "browser".

Well I use my internet radio a lot...Oh, and I tether.
I'd say if you use a lot of internet/apps, 100 mb would go quickly.

How much kb is the typical webpage?

I'm pretty sure I'd only use the internet when I would have to check my bank statement to balance my checkbook, or to check email or myspace (on the rare occasion that I use it).

I'd definitely need Unlimited Text tho.

I was hoping I'd find someone who was using the aforementioned plan, acting as if they were using a non-BB device.

Anything Blackberry related won't work, but I'd imagine everything else will, like Opera mini and Beejive. Mobile webpages aren't too big.. maybe 10-30kb. I was only charged 1 or 2 cents per page when I had a BlackBerry on a pay as you go internet.

I haven't seen the pay-as-you-go internet deal.
