I try to get on the internet with wifi and t mobile wants to charge me $1.99 per mb. Why can I surf the web free with wifi on a laptop but not on my phone? Has anyone else had that problem?

Default News to me

Thats the first time I've heard that Tmobile doesn't have free wi fi.

I know that a lot of the new phones have mandatory data plans when you buy them, but as far as I know all wi fi data is still free on TMO.

I could be wrong but thats what the customer service representative told me last time I talked to one about the plan I'm on 4 or 5 months ago.

Wi-Fi is still free. What probably happened is that, even though you were connected to your wi-fi network, you were pulling data from T-Mobile. So, if you don't have a data plan, they charge you $1.99 per MB. What type of phone do you have? You can probably turn off your mobile network to avoid these charges. Hope this helps.

Well when you turn off the mobile network, you won't be able to use the phone through T-Mobile's network, meaning no calls and text messages. However if you're connected through Wi-Fi, you should be able to utilize the Wi-Fi Calling feature if you have the latest version of the software. T-Mobile doesn't charge you to use Wi-Fi. However, if you're at like an airport or something like that and want to use Wi-Fi, you may need to pay for it. I think that's what the one representative was talking about.

To turn off your mobile network, follow these steps:

From the Home screen
1. From the Home screen, press and hold the Power key at the top of the phone.
2. Tap Airplane mode to turn on or off.

From the menu
1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Wireless & networks.
4. Tap to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the Airplane mode check box.
