Exclamation Changing Names On An Acccount

I am looking forward to getting a new cellular plan being that my contract with T-Mobile i up on March 10. I am wondering if i can get a new phone in my father's name then switch it to my name on June 9th since that is my 18th birthday. I will be getting a 2 year contract. Is this a possible thing to do?

You cannot change the master account holder's name. If you want your own contract, wait until your birthday.

And most likely you will not be able to afford your own account as you will have no credit history when you are just 18 and will require to pay a hefty deposit to open up your account.

You're wrong. You in fact can do this. I've had many friends who in middle of their contract wanted to switch w another carrier without paying ETF. They would get someone who does not want to do a new contract on the carrier the other person is on and give them their account-all you do I'd change name and ssi and all background info.

Tmo doesn't have deposits.

And I've seen 18 year old's get approved for one or 2 lines of contract service without a credit history before.

It is possible. What its called is a Change of Responsibility, basically what it will require is for Customer Service to speak to the account holder (your father) and he has to give permission for you to take over the line, then they will speak to you and they will run your credit to see if you are able to take over the line yourself.

If you have no credit history then you won't be able to take over the line, but its not entirely impossible I have seen 18 yr olds with excellent credit who qualify for multiple lines on regular accounts. It all really comes down to your credit.

That's not just changing the name. That's doing a whole new account and transferring the line to it. Unfortunately, freshly turning 18 will almost guarantee you a Flexpay account, which means you would not be able to do a change in responsibility.
