Default Cancelling Procedure

I never really got an answer in the ask a rep thread, but how does this process work? I understand and am prepared to pay the ETF, but according to T Mobile's terms & conditions, contracts that went into effect preceding 6/28/08 there is no prorated fee (I have 4 months left). So assuming I switch carriers at the end of my billing cycle and am current on payments, will I only owe the ETF? Or will I still owe my monthly payment for the next cycle in addition to the ETF? If I want to maintain my number do I open a new line with my new carrier first then cancel or vice versa?

Thanks for your help,
Jarel

If you're in the middle of a cycle and you cancel, you will owe the ETF and that month's bill. If you've started a new month (a day or two in), you will still pay that current bill and the ETF.

If you want to retain your number with another provider, go to that provider first and tell them you are porting in your number from another carrier. Once you port out of T-Mobile, it will automatically cancel your contract for you. It will take any where from 4-24 hours to full port out/in and your account will close in sync with that port out/in.

Xtemptation pretty much nailed it. Any reason why you're cancelling?

Edit: I don't work for tmo. I'm just wondering.

T Mobile doesn't carry the BB that I would like to purchase and I live in an area that gets good coverage from everyone so it basically comes down to which phone I want. I've done the research and I'd save about $100-$150 on the purchase of the phone by running it on "their" network instead of running it unlocked on T-Mobile. The cost of service and coverage is relatively the same.
