Default Can older SIM card account for slow data speeds on 3G

I just returned my 9700 today. I was getting anywhere from 64-240kbps tethered data speeds, with an average of about 180. I spoke with TM at length to see if I was provisioned correctly, and was in a good coverage aread, etc.. Even they agreed that the speed should be at least 400kbps (which I would have been happy with). In the end, I got nowhere with them, so I returned the phone.

Even today, I tested someone's myTouch and saw 786kbps data speeds--way over what I could get from the same service.

So my question is, is Tmobile's version of the 9700 garbage, or could it have been the sim card? Obviously their network performs well enough out here (Houston), but I just did not see it with my 9700.

I've heard that the older SIM cards don't always work well with the newer devices. I can only go with what I've read about people having to upgrade their SIM on the newer phones, especially smartphones.

+1, I've heard the same thing especially when you switch devices. I had issues with an 8900 that had a sim card for about 5 yrs on tmobile. I called Cs and they recommended that I get a new sim card. I did get a new and my reception did improve.
