Default Can I live w/out a data plan?

Sooooo I've been thinking about removing my data plan. I have several reasons on why I should/shouldn't keep the data plan. The bad seems to be out weighing the good

When I first moved into my apt I had good reception & everything was fine, but now at the most I get 2 bars & I can't make calls from inside nor does the internet work well inside.
I have internet @ home & school, do I really need it on my BlackBerry too?
I feel as tho $85 is too much to pay for services that don't work inside of my house.
But I do use Google Maps all the time & wouldn't be able to do this witout the data plan.
What should I do?

Doesn't sound like you have much of an option. Whether or not it works in your house, if you need the service, it's gonna cost. That's how the world works. Besides, it is a BlackBerry...I just don't understand why anyone would buy one and NOT have the data plan, but maybe that's just me.

Dump the data plan and get a cheap Motorola. Doesn't sound like you need the data plan OR the BlackBerry.

If cost is the issue, I'd remove the internet service ob the phone. From what you've said, you don't need it as much. Your blackberry will be fine without internet. You can get a generic data plan so your be able to browse and use instant messaging like yahoo. Just download 3rd party software.

But bear in mind that full functionality of your phone will only be there with bis. But I've seen people use their berries without bis and they are happy about it.

I couldn't see myself going without a data plan but I know a few people who have been happy without it. Depending on what phone you have, if you spend a lot of time at home and school you may be able to use WiFi a lot, too.

You need to setup UMA so you will have excellent coverage in your house.

Why would you have a Blackberry without a data plan? You may as well just get a "talk & text" device.

The carrier that supports WiFi when you look at the signal it will either say EDGE or UMA. I'm not on any data plan but do have the unlimited Hotspot and can't live without it.

You just use the data for Google Maps? You're right, that's not worth the cost.

The choice is up to you but if you're not going to use the service that much it may make sense to drop it. I've heard that some people can use GM on a BB with a generic data plan. You should look into that.

To answer the original OP without getting off on whether or not she should hav ethe right to have a berry with no data( I hate these remarks )

$20 extra can be alot if your tight with finaces.

depending on how you are set up with home and which plan you have ... I would probably add Hot spot or hotspot @ home to get better reception. This will also give you the option of connecting to the net whenever you are in a hotspot location. if you already have a wifi @ home i would get general hotspot if not I would go for hotspot @ home which gives you a double benefit of making your home a Hotspot and also giving you the option to drop your HOME phone service and use Tmobile's home service which gives you unlimited free calls from a "home phone" This alone can make you actually GAIN money by switching.

if you live @ home with your parents then you would have to get them to agree to drop the regular landline and switch to tmobile Home service. It's a sweet deal and gives you great reception @ home along with way cheaper landline "type " service.

Anyway......using hotspot can cost "MINUTES" without a hotspot plan and you do need one of their WIFI enabled phones
