Default Can I "convert" my unlocked ATT Bold to work UMA?

or do I need to buy a T-mobile phone?

No. I tried it myself. The ATT 9000 is incapable of UMA.

Sorry to see you have gotten confirmation that your Bold won't support UMA. But definitely come on over to T-Mobile. I used to have AT&T and made the switch and couldn't be happier.

Might want to look into the new BlackBerry 9700 debutting next Monday. It will be UMA and 3G and should do everything you need.

I've heard of 8900s from other carriers (like AT&T and Rogers) being able to work on T-Mobile UMA with a lot of tinkering and such because it has the hardware for it. However, it's not possible with the Bold, it just doesn't have the ability.

I agree with berryite, not too long and then the 9700 comes out. It's basically like an improved Bold (with 3G!) and UMA. Problem solved.

you can do it trusttttt me.......UMA is a software feature not a hardware feature artemis......I have a bold and i can do UMA.....it is risky but it can be done
