Default Blackberry without data on T-Mo

I currently have a 3GS jailbroken and unlocked on T-mobile, and it's not what I hoped it would be. I had a Blackberry Tour on Verizon a while back, and I was looking at picking up a used Bold 9700. However, I was googling around and it seems as though MMS does not work without a data plan on T-mobile. I can get data for a month for $25 since I'm on the Even More Plus plan, then take it off if all I need is the service books to be sent to my phone.

Would I be able to use wifi for e-mail and internet browsing as that's what I do with my iPhone at the moment.

As long as you use 3rd party apps, you'll be fine for everything except e-mail. You can access your e-mail via WiFi through your browser.

Ok and how about the MMS? Will it work? I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get MMS working on my 3GS, but that doesn't bother me.

Oh and does the native browser work without service books?

Just thought you'd like to know that my wife sends me photos of our beautiful new daughter via MMS from her 8320 all the time and she doesn't have a data plan.

That's because it's an older device.

Are you saying you can't with newer devices?

RIM is making it harder to have some features, like MMS, without having a data plan. Older BBs, I've found, were more versatile than the ones coming out now.
