| | Blackberry vs Droid
Totally stressing over the decision to keep with Blackberry or switch to Droid.
I know Droid is all the rage but I just can't decide. I currently get my BB bis for $19.99 monthly and CAN NOT get it back if I decide to try Droid and don't like it.
I also will mention Droid data will cost me $20 unlimited also so it's not a money issue.... But more a fear that I will lose the option of $19.99 blackberry should I decide to switch back. i just have a nagging feeling in the back of my head that blackberry is due for a big breakout of some kind and I,ll end up sorry

All I can tell you is my own experience and it does not implicate any money or discount. I have already tried twice to change from BBerry to a different phone. I tried Palm and went back to BBerry. I just recently withing the last month I changed to a Droid.. the G2, and after two weeks I went back to BBerry. What am I trying to tell you ??? very simple... once you are a BBerry person ...you are always a BBerry person and it is very hard to change. I am not saying that you might not be able to make the switch, I am just saying that the big majority of BBerry user stay with BBerry.

I went through the exact same thing a few months back. I am eagerly waiting for a large screen blackberry with t-mobile. I decided to try a incredible with verizon, and evo with spring. I returned both. They just arn't blackberry's. I can honestly say I dont like the android OS. As a communication device the BB is king. Surfing the web the androids were light years ahead of my 9700. But if you email, txt, instant message, or make phone calls the BB is light years ahead of the android, and I think both are equal when it comes to apps that I like to use. I personally think the BB OS is much simpiler to use as well. So I will continue to wait. I would love a torch, I use the web alot for my job, so a large screen would be very benifical, but not at the risk of going to android. Oh an by the way my BB battery lasts about 4 times longer than the incredible and evo.

It did some amazing Google things (preloaded with Google earth, etc). But the dual keyboard (slide-out and touch-screen) ended being annoying. I honestly couldn't make up my mind on which to use. Which got old. So I returned it for a Galaxy S.
Like others have said - Droid is more computer less communication device. BB is more communication device and less computer.
Emails on BB are quicker and easier.

Wanna spend some bucks? Get an Android phone from ebay or Craig's List, activate it, try it, then go back to ebay or Craig's List and sell the one you don't want.
You'll probably get most of your money back.
Personal opinion:
Favorite phone OS:
1. WinMo 6.5 on HTC HD2
2. BB 5.x on 9700
3. Android 2.2 on MyTouch 3G and on HTC HD2

It really boils down to stability, google puts out very few stable products, they develop things just enough to give us th ooooo aaaahhhhh wwooooo but then don't finish it leaving us buggy products. I'm waiting a few years before jumping on Android.

I wouldn't worry about the data. Loyalty reps offer $20 data for all smartphones for long time customers. If you can get $20 data for Android, you can get the $20 BB data if you switch back. The 19.99 is the old package and that's different...but $20 preferred BB web is available. I'm currently on the $20 Android web so I can get the $15 unlimited domestic and international messages.
I switched to a G2 from the 9700. I swear this phone was made for me. I love the keyboard. I only miss the push email and better battery life. IM and texting feels fine and I prefer the app selection on Android.
Its up to you.

Thanks for the replys. They really helped me reason it all out. I' m sticking with BB.
Not that one seems better then the other .... But it just seems the BB is more tailored to my needs..... Although smokin internet sounds tempting. |

Honestly, my bb has been pushing my emails late for quite a while now. From what I've seen in the preview for mytouch 4g, it has an intergrated mailbox- 2.2 os looks a lot better in terms of improvment.
My 8320 doesn't last the whole day- it has to be charged after lunch- even with a new battery. My friend's slide last the whole day w/o a charge and she's a heavy user.
Like others said, you can try and if you don't like it, you can go back. I fought real hard to get back my $19.99 bb plan- but I got it!

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | My Gmail push email comes to my BlackBerry a few seconds before it hits my Gmail inbox, never had an issue with that at all.
You would be much happier with a Blackberry that isn't three year old technology like your 8320 is.
I consider my 8900 old and I only charge it every other day and I'm an extremely heavy user.

Oh, if you call cs to get it, don't let them switch you to $30 if you upgrade to another bb for the stupid rebate! They messed me up on that- I had to keep calling them to fix my bill with outrageous charges for having 4 different plan changes in one billing cycle. $19.99 then $30 then $20 after I aurgued with them back to $19.99. Now what's wrong with this? They should've backdated the data plans but they didn't. I ended up with $30-somthing charges for data! That's not acceptable!

You can get the rebate with the $20 plan. My boyfriend did this. He just got his $50 card in the mail. He upgraded to a Vibrant from a dumbphone.

Lol... Well as long as i have your guys attention .....
Is it stupid to add $5 internet to the two dumbphones on my family plan even though I don't really need it ?????? I think I onlywant to because it will only be Available a few more days but I honestly don't have any use for it.
JusT a case of only wanting something because it's a DEAL!!!!!
Just to clarify..... The $5 data in my area is actually just as fast OR SHOULD I SAY SLOW as the stupid BIS I have on BB.

I was fighting with the same thing as you. Same situation with the grandfathered $19.99 unlimited BB. I have stayed with Tmo and have not changed because of it. I have been wanting to try the iPhone and also Android. I picked up an iPhone 3GS and jailbroke and unlocked it while running on my BB plan. After I realized I just could not stand the reception and the slow response I was ready to take the plunge for the Android. I went with the G2 btw.
Before doing anything I called Tmo's CS and explained that I was fearful I would not be happy not being on BB and they ran through the whole thing how I had to change plans and could not go back, etc. I explained that if it were not for my grandfathered plan I would just go to AT&T for the same price as a new plan would cost me since they have the iPhone4 and the BB Torch. (I'm out of contract) He then said he would note my account and make sure if I was not happy on the Andriod plan I would be able to roll back to my present set up via Buyer's Remorse. I went to a Tmo corporate store, confirmed my account was noted, and picked up my G2. For some reason they gave me a break on my Android Unlimited Plan and gave me $24.99. Only $5 more than I was paying for my BB.
I have to say as it stands right now, I don't miss a thing about my 9700. The G2 is fast, if you use gmail it pushes as fast as my BB mail, and the G2 is fast. Did I mention the G2 is fast? Ha ha! I appreciate the larger screen with the pop-out keyboard, and the browsing is awesome! I used to break out my notebook often, but now I'm good getting on the web from my phone. Even if I'm not on WiFi. The new Hspa+ Tmo system "almost" feels like I'm on WiFi. No joke.
I'd say call CS, tell them your situation, and see what they can do. I still have 3 weeks to roll back to my original plan, but I really don't see it happening. I can see why Android is gaining popularity like it is.
