Default Blackberry Curve 8900 Upgrade

I'm eligible for an upgrade and i intend to get the curve.

However there seems to be a new mandatory data plan policy for smartphones on t-mobile, which requires you to get a data plan alongside the curve. I want to know if it's possible and safe (no etf or rescinded rebate) to get the data plan and cancel it the next day (it's okay if i get charged for the first month of data)

I would like to hear from the people who have cancelled their data plan or managed to get the curve without it, AFTER the mandatory data plan was instated.

Please i'm not here to get into a "blackberry without data plan is like a car with no engine" debate. Let's stay on the original subject. Thank you

It's like a blender with no ice.

It's like potato chips with no ridges.

It's Forrest Gump without his box of chocolates.

Plan A. Get the curve with data plan. Wait 2 weeks and then tell them you dropped it in your pool. Put your SIM in your old phone just in case they can identify it. Ask them to remove the data plan. Then, when no one is looking, put the SIM back in the curve. Cha-ching! But you're a liar if you do this and God will hate you.

Plan B. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

From what we've been told, the phone won't be fully functional without the feature attached to your line.

God eventually forgives So if i were to follow plan A and change sim. wouldn't they be able to track it when it's back in the curve? ...Other than that that's a good plan if i ever heard one

xTemptati0n it works fully without the data plan... only the blackberry features like push mail etc. won't work

Hi, i just wanted to chime in and maybe help clear things up a bit. If you were to do plan A it would unfortunately not work since, You are actually no longer allowed to have the feature removed since with the new update to the data policy if you decide to complete an upgrade you are now signing a 2 year contract extension of your plan AS WELL AS A 2 Year agreement to Have the Blackberry feature on on your account..Plan A used to work after 1 full billing cycle but not anymore. This new Policy is in effect for all Sidekicks and G1s as well. the Only loop holes are the Samsung memoir and behold.

huh?

@TMobileAtx... if the purchase comes from an outside source other than t-mobile... say wal-mart for example, you won't be obligated to keep the data plan then would you? ... or are you saying that once you have a data device on t-mobile you MUST have an accompanying data plan?

If you purchase the phone with T-Mobile it is Required. If you purchase it somewhere else and use it how you want, its no issue, BUT if you have any type of issues with the device and bring it to t-mobile, the root of the problem every time is going to be that you Do Not Have the Feature on the Account...(off topic) why would anybody want to have a BB if you are Only going to be using it for basic talk/text? a status symbol?

i'm capable of handling any phone specific problems that i may have without asking t-mobile's help. i'm getting the curve because i like it. it's a good looking phone that doubles as a music player and there are several other features it has that aren't in plain phones. do me a favor and try not to stray from topic and tell me the many beautiful features of a data plan that i am missing, i am well aware of them. hey there's nothing wrong with having a good looking phone that also performs unbelievably well... if it boosts reputation/status all the better i'm not complaining

thanks for your help so far though. what i'll have to do now is also check the terms of the walmart contract to make sure they don't require me to keep the data plan for the entirety of the 2 years

No problem, I'm glad I could help..by the way I was in no way trying to rag on u for not wanting the data feature, I simply wanted incite on how people use their BB without the feature. I work for T-mobile but in no way am I ever gonna try to sell or push any service/product online. Besides I'm off duty. :-)

Lol good to hear. I think i'll just go with buying the phone at full price so i don't end up having to pay etf for missing some fine print line in the walmart terms of service
