| | Blackberry Curve 8520
So the 8520 has arrived on T-Mobile. Is it worth it for me to even consider getting it since I have the 8320? What's different on the 8520 then the one I currently have. I'm thinking about just waiting until later this year until the Driftwood comes to town.

I got some hands on with the device the other day at the store. It's a great device overall, but I wouldn't trade out for it, unless you got it for next to nothing. The media keys are a plus for sure. The biggest improvement is the file space and speed. It has 256 memory, rather than the 64 that the 8320 has. It also has a 500mhz processor if I'm not mistaking. The optical track pad is a great change, but I've noticed that if your hands aren't clean or they are sweaty, your finger on top of the pad stutters a little bit (not a smooth glide over the surface). It's also using the software that the 8900 is. Maybe not the same number, but the new 4.6 look and feel. Overall, I really like the device, but I'm also happy with my 8320 as it is.

So there isn't a significant change in the 8520. I'm happy with my 8320 also but memory is killing. Just today I deleted Facebook, Myspace, one theme, and a few other apps to regain some memory since my BB would freeze. I'm still low on memory as I write this but it hasn't froze at all today. I'd like to have that 256MB of memory and the faster processor on my 8320. I was reading a review on Engadget and they were not too happy with the trackpad. I'd like to read from others what they think.

Frankly, I like the track ball and track pad, but I'm used to the track ball, so I can't say that a track pad would be such a big improvement for me. The memory and speed are the two biggest perks of the new curve replacement.

yeah I mean it all depends. If you can get the 8520 for pretty cheap I would go for it. But if its over $100 I wouldn't go for it.

Imo, it is a piece of garbage. It feels and looks cheap phone. I don't understand why RIM even made this phone. I would never buy it!

This phone may not be as great as the 8900, or the tour, or the bold, for example, but it is better, way better, than the 8320. More memory, faster processor, trackpad.
How many aps can you run on that 8320? How often do you have to delete text messages, emails, browser history, etc.? When I had 8320 I had to delete emails and text messages almost daily because the memory would run low and would slow it down. I havent deleted a single email or text message on the 8520 since I bought it.
The trackpad is better than the trackball. It wont move perfectly if your hands are dirty or sweaty, as someone mentioned, but the same thing happens with a trackball. If your fingers are dirty the trackball gets stuck.
I say get it just because of the extra memory and the trackpad if you currently have an 8320.

I just got the 8520 to replace my 8310. And so far I have to say I'm very happy with my decision with my 8310 I had that damn clock pop up and freeze my phone every 20 min or so. I hardly notice the delay on here and I have a crap load of apps I added on. The trackpad is sweet I didn't have to customize the settings on mine out of the box it worked flawlessly. But again this is all my opinion, not all abusers have the same experience. On that note I hope everyone has a cracktastic day

Every thread I go into that has to do with the 8520 most people say the same thing it's "ugly, cheap, downgrade, don't get it". I say it's all a persons personal opinion. I got one a few days ago and I like it. Granted it doesn't have all the features of the 8900, Tour etc. but it is a nice phone. I'm happy with it for the time being. The extra memory is a nice thing no more deleting of other things the processor is also nice. Then again this is just my opinion like any other person who likes it or doesn't like it.

Which software version are you running on your Curve? I recently downloaded and installed 4.5.0.161 and my file free never goes below 12MB and upon rebooting runs about 20MB. This upgrade has helped the performance of my BB.

I recently deleted some apps that I could live without and now it's holding steady but I don't have much space to install anymore apps since I have about 10MB-13MB free.

It's a BB pecking order. Strictly as a Blackberry the 8520 is just as good as the 8900.It's size reminds me of the Nokia E71x,very thin and compact.Obviously not as solid as the metal-bodied E71x but still well built. So far I haven't heard near as many problems with the Gemini as I've read about Verizon's Tour.
