Default Blackberry 8320 Memory Leak Problem...is 8900 better?

I have a blackberry 8320 and its been suffering from the memory leak problem. I have to reboot my phone at least once a day. I was rebooting it several times a day, then I deleted any unused apps and all my themes and upgraded the OS to 4.5, which helped for a little while but now I still have to reboot my phone often and I lose messages all the time. When I look at the "file free" under the status menu it will be about 5million bytes after a fresh reboot and then go all the way to 0 bytes free within a day of normal use.

After doing everything I could to solve the problem I brought it into a t-mobile store and the guy at store loaded a program called MemoryUp and told me to see if that works. After using it for a while it didn't seem to help at all and I still had to reboot the phone all the time.

So I went back to another t-mobile store and tried to see if they could help me again. This time he seemed all too familiar with the problem and just suggested that I upgrade to the 8900. He checked my account and said that I am eligible for the upgrade and it would cost about $160 to upgrade to the 8900 and about $90 to replace my current 8320.

Is this memory leak problem solved on the 8900? I feel that $160 is a lot of money to pay to fix a problem on a phone that should work as advertised in the first place. I could understand if the problem was created from normal wear and tear on the phone or if it was because I dropped it, but this memory leak issue is a problem that was not created by my use [or misuse] of the phone.

I have yet to call customer care about this problem. Has anyone had any luck with getting a replacement for their 8320 due to a memory leak problem via customer care? If so, I would love to hear how you did it.

Thanks.

I will say the memory leak still exsist but it all depends on what apps you have running in the background. From expierence, it all dependent on the apps and the os your running. As far as getting a replace me for a memory leak, I would bet is highly unlikely.

Google Maps and Facebook are both big memory hogs. I don't know about Opera Mini or Gmail because I don't use them. Twitterberry never caused me any issues, but I do not leave it running in the background. Make sure you are closing all apps properly by using Menu > Close. If you leave them running in the background you are going to have memory leaks like you are having now.

Also, have you used the Blackberry 101 Lecture on how to free up memory? One of the things on the 8320 that takes up a lot of memory are those preloaded myfaves pictures (seriously, I freed up almost 10MB by removing those from the os.) If you don't use them, I would get rid of them. This file is labeled as:

The device itself does not have a memory leak. It is an app or OS that has your leak. That or else you're leaving apps open. Yes, the 8900 is a better device. It has more memory to start with. I had a memory leak with one OS (so it seemed) and one app (a launcher). Other than that, the 8900 is a huge upgrade over the 8320. Faster, better camera, GPS, better screen, more memory... Certainly worth the 70 bucks you're looking at (160-90). However, realize there are more Berries coming to TMO within the year, including a 3G one. Just something to think about.

To me it doesn't matter if I have a memory leak or not. I have never had to reboot my 8900 for low memory and when I check it the memory is never below 100mb.
If you had a perfectly funtioning 8300 it would still be worth the money to upgrade.
