Default Best way to repair a Tmo BlackBerry without replacement?

I just signed on to T-Mobile and I'm on my third Bold 9700 right now: the first one had a screen defect, the second had a drifting trackpad cursor, and now this one has a sticky green button but is otherwise fine.

Seeing as I've already swapped this phone twice and Tmo doesn't do in-store repairs like other carriers, does anyone know if I can have a 3rd party repair shop tweak the call button without voiding the warranty? I feel that this defect is pretty minor and not worth risking a bigger one with yet another replacement, let alone all the hassle with migrating app licenses.

If you feel confident, you could purchase a new keypad and install it. Im not 100% sure that this would not void your warranty, probably would. I would live with it or make them send you another one untill you are satisfied.

Replacing a new keypad will infact VOID your warranty. If you feel confident then you it, if not then don't, have TMO replace it.

The choice is yours

Thanks, I don't think it needs a part replacement though, just feels like something got stuck on the underside of the key or it isn't seated right. I suppose it can't hurt to check with the store and see what they recommend (other than "live with it" of course).

Anything that you do to open the back of the bezel and remove the screws will, as said, void the warranty. The only option for non-surgery is to shoot it with canned air.

If anyone fixes your phone rather than t-mo, that will void your warranty. I suggest that you get a replacement from then since it still has the warranty and when you do, specify that they send you a new device rather than a refurbished one. Go with the warranty as long as you have it or insure the device, but get a new device instead of a refurbished one as a replacement. Hope that helps...

Just out of pure curiosity....how long is the warranty on the 9700?

I purchased mine WAAAY back in November.....and never really looked at it as an issure, but i too have always had the same problem with the keys sticking as is described here.

Can I still swap it out?

Thanks!

Warranty is one year from date of purchase, however they decide if your "issue" warrants an exchange.

My 9700 had the same issue. It was hard to press. Give it some time and the issue should be resolved.

Well, the Q key started to get mushy as well so I took pilsbury's advice and ordered an OEM replacement keyboard. As this was my first BlackBerry I had no idea that replacement components are very easy to come by online, or that the 9700 is fairly simple to take apart.

Yes, I'm gonna be voiding the warranty by doing this but I feel it's worth it compared to the risk of getting an even worse phone via warranty exchange. Not to mention having to transfer app licenses for the nth time because my PIN has changed yet again.

May as well learn how to swap keyboards myself since Tmo is insane enough not to have dedicated repair centers like the other major carriers.

My 8300 T-ball won't scroll down so I did a practice run removing it (for when I get the new one) and now it won't scroll right either
but i have no warranty so no worries
I do need to open it up and clean the dust from the display. Saw a video on how to, but now can't find it again.
GOOD LUCK
