Default Is BBMSNGR Billed As Text?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times. i did a search and found nothing.

Question: Is BB messenger billed as text, or just the other IM programs like yahoo & AOL etc?

Okay, so only the other IM clients are billed as text then.

Now as far as I know, all IM is billed as Data, since you are required to have a data feature to use these services. They cant double bill you for them. T-Mobile doesnt say this anywhere specifically, and when you call they wont know for sure. But no data - no IM. Seems simple to me.

I actually talked to Tmobile the other night about changing my text plan. I had the unlimited family text plan and wasn't using enough to justify it. I asked the specific question about IM and BBM and was told that all IM apps take away from your text plan. BBM doesn't and runs on the data.

I find this a bit strange so had the rep go double check and he came back and said the same thing. Maybe someone on here that works for Tmobile can confirm or deny this??

the im apps like yahoo aim icq are counted as text messages.. the bbm is counted as emails...... this is the way i understand it

so if you have a bb pearl on tmobile you can still use yahoo aim with only a text bundle but not bbm because it need email thats included in the data plan

t mobile just changed every thing to where if you are a new customer or upgraded to a bb you are required to have a data plan on all bb's EXCEPT the pearl...

I've used the IM clients (namely AIM and msn) on my 8900 and they never deducted text messages. I look up my text history to be sure. I also have the data plan.

It was my understanding that data-less BBs with feature enabler would charge texts for IMs but if you have data, it will just use data.

I have unlimited data and 400 texts, and I frequently use AIM. BBMs and IMs do NOT count as texts. The AIM, GTalk, ICQ, etc. clients won't work unless you have a data plan, but if you're getting IMs forwarded to your phone and you don't have a data plan, that does count as texts.

I just got off the phone with an ATT rep and informed me that messages that go back and forth in via an IM client such as yahoo, which is what I use, come off your TEXTS!!! I asked him to double check it and came back correct. m Talk about carriers making sure they can tax the consumer every way possible. What a bunch of crap. They said that when you go to the yahoo website that comes of your data. NO S**** SHERLOCK! But when you use the "chat" then that is texting. BS!!

PS>>>why is it then I could message with my wifi enabled Itouch without getting charged the per text/message. Talk about a bunch of bull! So its not like it cost them anything for us to send a message. Heck if it did then I would not be able to do it with my itouch. They just don't want to lose their money from the texting plans. Cause lets face it, why would I SMS someone when I could IM with Yahoo and pay for the sms plan right?
