Exclamation BB w/No plan?!

Okay so I am currently with tmobile with no contract and have a stupid razr after my sidekick broke and for a while I've been wanting a bb 8900 or curve but i'm planning on buying it used on eBay and my concerns are that once I put my sim card in it will tmobile allow me to use it data free? And is it true I won't be able to text and send pics without Internet? What I'm loosing from not having data plan on it besides Internet?

Well I think you have answer your own question. I got the same phn unlocked running on att its tmobile before but unlocked not anymore. Text works but no mms and no internet. U can use wifi if u want net. I haven't loaded up any new os just yet but I will. Don't expect to much without a data plan.

You can use SMS and MMS on an 8900 without a data plan. Most likely any first party apps, instant messengers and many third party apps wont work, even over wifi. IMO, a blackberry is not a good phone to get without a BB plan.

If you really want a smartphone I would suggest you get a windows mobile, symbian or an iphone with wifi

I could be wrong but MMS on a BB is data dependent. When I was having data issues at my house I couldn't send or receive MMS but could still place voice calls and SMS.

Also Tmo has some cheap blackberry plans. I'm on 600 voice unlimited SMS and unlimited data for 72.11 a month. No contract. Flex plan.

complete anwser to your quistion. firstly yes you can use the phone with no issues. mms will be no issues, you will need to have tmobile send you service books and than you will be able to send mms with no issues. the 8900 is a great phone. you can use a handfull of apps over wifi and browse the web with no issues over wifi, there are a growing amount of wifi capable apps so thats a plus. i understand someone might say that no data with a blackberry is a waste but i would also laught at the fact that my buisness and home a covered 100 percent by wifi, ironically so is my coffee shop and my local bar out to. so i save the $30 a month and still have all the same capabilities, and i admit i am a little restricted by the apps i can use. but in all the 720 i saved over a contract term is cool in my book.

I work for Blackberry / PDA support for T-Mobile, You can use a BB without a data plan and still send and receive both sms and mms. The service books are hard coded to the phone and does not require the data plan to get them. Not sure if verizon is different but T-Mo will work ok..Internet will work over wifi just don't expect to get IM's and Apps to work over the wifi without the plan.

Well first off I love your department you solve issues faster then vrzn and USCC. I need to update my profile I'm a storm on tmo. And as stated I could be wrong. and was only pulling logic from personal experience.

Service books may be an issue without the data soc through tmobile(over the phone sending through PDA dept.) but you can do the software update which includes service books through the site

Without the BB plan you need to call BB and PDA support to get service books sent to your phone. Its can sometimes be a pain, but all you have to do is tell them you don't have a BIS plan and you want MMS to work. If the rep doesn't know what you're talking about, call back or escalate to BB tech support.
