Default BB Tour 9630 Question

Does anyone know if the BB Tour 9630 can be unlocked to work on T-Mobile?

Yes it can. There are many topics on how to get the servicebooks on the tour. Use the search.

I've been told the phone has to be flashed and the OS replaced with TMO's make for another phone, being the Tour is a CDMA phone. I could be wrong, but I know there's some way it can happen (you wouldn't believe the people using Storms on TMO's networks)

Hmm don't know about all that flashing... and TMO wouldn't have an OS for the tour...

But if you have an unlocked Tour, and can put your sim card in it... then the only thing left to do is load the T-mobile service books. Kind of like what we used to have to do with our storms. It is pretty easy, and they even make tools to help you now.

As others have said yes as long as unlocked. Keep in mind it will not be 3G because the Unlock Storm and Tour use different bands here in the US. You just need the service books.

I have a Tour with Verizon. I am looking at unlocking mine and paying the ETF to move to T-Mo. I will be saving a boat load by going to T-Mo. I would save over $30 a month for me and my wife and that is before I dump my home phone.

No flashing required. It is just a code. I unlocked my tour using a code and it works on Tmobile.

Does calls/SMS still work without those service books?

Calls/SMS work without any additional configuration on an unlocked phone.

Personally, I don't see any reason to go with a Tour over, say, an 8900 unless you are getting a ridiculous price on it. Aside from some style differences, the 8900 has more features for less money, as far as the used market goes.

I must admit that I prefer the Tour's keypad, but it isn't worth giving up Wifi/UMA and also subjecting myself to finicky GPS (So I've heard)

The only reason I'm going with a tour right now is that its what I have, and with the even more plus plan, I won't have to pay anything up front , except a sim card if they charge for that? either way, it'll be a lot cheaper than buying a new phone right now.. Eventually I'll look into either the 9700 or something

No charge for a SIM card if you're activating a new plan. And free is always good

Yeah I walked in there (well it was a mall kiosk, so walked up to it) and told em I wanted an even more plus plan for my unlocked tour, and he put a sim in, used a imei from a t-mobile phone for activation, and I walked away paying nothing, and now i'm just waiting for my porting to complete. did it at 2:54 and still waiting, he said two hours, but i'm guessing it's gonna be days.. Is there any way to follow up on it and make sure things are going smoothly? (I cant be without a phone for too long)
