Default BB Service Price Increase After Upgrade?

Today I went and took the plunge and upgraded to the Bold 9700 and I'm loving the phone. Before I signed on the dotted line to extend my contract, both today and 2 weeks ago when I initially inquired about the upgrade I got assurances from the T-Mobile reps in the store that my plan would not change at ALL and my monthly cost would not be going up. I had Unlimited BlackBerry Web service for $24.99. They assured me even though the current price was now $30.00 a month for the service that I was grandfathered in at the old price and would NOT be subject to the new charge.

I was having difficulty getting visual voicemail to initialize on my phone so I went online and guess what I see, my BlackBerry plan has been changed to $30.00. I couldn't get the VV upgrade to work online so I called in and the friendly rep immediately fixed that issue. I then inquired about the change in Blackberry Service price and was told that this is a new required data feature and they can see where the old feature was swtiched off and the new one added, but there was nothing they could do.

Is this normal practice? I thought T-Mobile allowed customers to stay on the same plan as long as there was no change. (I'm still on an old family plan that hasn't existed for T-Mobile in probably 3 years and NEVER been made to change yet.) In this case there was no change in my service I was just swtiching to a new BlackBerry 9700 from an 8900. $60 extra per year was not something I was counting on when I was being assured by the store reps that my service would not be affected.

Any assistance you can offer would be appreciated.

That's totally weird. I have no idea why that would happen to you.

I lost my 19.99 BIS plan when I upgraded to the 9700 but the lady put me on the 34.99 BB plan which included unlimited messages, which I needed. I'm on a single line.

T-Mobile is usually really good about telling you what will happen when you ask them, ESPECIALLY if you ask repeatedly. It sounds like you did that. I'm going to say that it sounds like the rep f-ed up big time. This is not typical from what I've heard at all.

I'd speak to retentions and see what can be done to help you.

that's just not right! i just upgraded to the 9700 2 night ago and still using my 19.99 data plan... your plan should NOT have changed...
do you guys use twitter? cuz if you do, you should get in touch with @tmobile_usa and they are really good about getting back to you
but yeah, you both should have been grandfatherd in your old data plan prices

Yeah, it's cool though. I had 19.99 and then had the unlimited text so it pretty much worked out the same for me. No biggie.

I definitely think for the OP though should contact T-Mobile and get it fixed.

T-mobile has been getting bad about that type of stuff lately. Best of luck to you, I would make them put you on the plan you had as you should have bEen grandfathered.
