I'll post a pic of my rest after dinner. While going 80 down I-5 I was well over 4000Kbps on the down load side. Not bad for my storm with EVDO.

Here's a screen shot. I was actually surprised, and don't know if it's accurate at all:

I just ran another one, and peaked at 2411Kbps down, 108 up...so, it's a fluke either way, I'm guessing my average is somewhere around 1000Kbps on a regular day (?)...

Aren't these testing apps considered high UNreliable in their reporting quality?

I had tested yesterday with mobilespeedtest.com but you could clearly tell the results were useless due to the proxy server usage of the native browser or opera mini. each test was faster than the last, even picking the larger files in subsequent tests.
If someone knows how to force the hotspot browser while wifi is disabled, let me know, as i recall that being the only way to use the native browser to get around the RIM proxy servers.(could be wrong though)

I don't know how xtremelabs gets around the issue but since their results seem consistent, i have a bit more faith in them.

Sitting in downtown tampa, wifi disabled, using speedtest app from xtremelabs on TMO network, 9700 running 5.0.0.330. signal strength -70dBm.

before battery pull:
Avg. Download Speed: 154.87Kbits/s
Max. Download Speed: 154.87Kbits/s

Avg. Upload Speed: 52.6Kbits/s
Max. Upload Speed: 59.57Kbits/s

after battery pull:
Avg. Download Speed: 235.46Kbits/s
Max. Download Speed: 235.46Kbits/s

Avg. Upload Speed: 46.72Kbits/s
Max. Upload Speed: 53.47Kbits/s

I agree with berryite. Plus, whatever it is you have so why agonize about lack of speed or get excited with faster speed. Data is going to load as it wants to and we have no control over it.

I'm still waiting to hit over 1mb......even after t-mobile's 3g upgrade to 7.2.
Should we see an an increase in speeds because of the 7.2 we should at least be getting over 1mb

Try using the wap broswer provided by your carrier as opposed to the "internet browser". They both look the same, but it seems the wap broswer doesn't go thru RIM's servers for a more accurate test.

Using the wap broswer for 1mb test on mobilespeedtest.com:
1001.252 Kbps

Using the internet broswer for 1mb test:
3319.502 Kbps

You are correct. They are highly unreliable. BlackBerry service goes through a proxy and the results you receive on your device in no way reflect the speeds of your carrier. Mobilespeedtest.com even puts this warning on the results page.

The best way to find out a more accurate speed is to test while tethering. Even then I don't know how reliable those results are.

It doesn't matter what browser you use. These tests are not accurate. I did one once and got a result of 437 KBPS; did a second one a few minutes later and it said 8000 KBPS. That is faster than average Basic DSL speeds. Like I said above ^ the suggested best way to find out your actual speed is to run a test while tethered to your PC.
