Thumbs down Bad UMA Reception!!!!

Is anyone else experiencing bad reception while making calls on UMA. Started a couple of days ago for me. Prior to this my calls have been good. Already did the basics (battery pull, reset router etc.) Using os 5.0.0.593 without any issues until then. Also not locking in to UMA as it did previously. Any suggestions?

It's either the OS or your internet connection. I was using .593 and UMA calls were really bad in quality, so I downgraded back to an earlier OS. No problems since.

Like I said, it can also be your internet connection. Go to a starbucks and see if the problem persists. If so, then it's the OS.

I had this problem also just recently. I found a combination of the below to result in the best uma/wifi I have had to date.

- Hard reset of router to wipe all setting on it. I also added PPTP to be allowed to pass through my firewall for my bb. (I have ATT UVerse router and internet). Also, made sure I was on a wifi channel not used by any locations close by.

- On my BB I made sure my wifi profile allowed for interaccess point handover. Basically this just allows you to go from uma to 3g to whatever with no hitch.

- Lastly, I loaded the latest .656 beta os on my 9700 which has been the BEST uma/wifi build I have used on this phone to date.

I believe most of the issues are not from the routers, but the os build on peoples phones. For instance, when I first got my 9700 uma and wifi worked great right out of the box. Later builds for whatever reason lowered the quality... my .656 has been terrific so far.

Hope this helps you.

I ran into the same problem last year until I found out a new neighbor of mine setup his Wifi to a channel close to mine.

Go to Wifi options on your phone, then "Wifi Tools" and run a site survey. It will list all routers in range and show their channel. Also, under Wifi Options, move the router that you are having issues with to the top spot and delete wifi spots that you do not use.

Hope this helps.

I'll try your suggestions when I get home today. Thanks for all your help. I'll update with the results.
