| | Anyone upgrade from 8900 to 9780??
How would you compare the 9780 vs 8900? Is it worth the upgrade or should I wait until next generation of BB? I'm asking because my trackball crapped out on me. I'm long overdue for an upgrade but was trying to hold out and contemplating switching services. What's the scoop?

My suggestion is,
Keep the 8900.
Buy a trackball.
open phone.
fix phone.
OR.
Try another method to fix it,

I think you should wait honestly. The new ones look slick and 9780 is much less than the newer phones.

Yep, new BB's will be nice! I would do the same, if not...can find a cheap/used 8900 on Craigslist for 75 and under till new ones come out if you aren't Tech savvy and think you can't fix it.
Good luck!

I'm using the 8900 as well and was going to upgrade to the 9780 but then I saw all the new phones that are going to be coming out this summer and decided to wait instead. Even if I don't get another BB, there are plenty of better phones that will be coming out. |

Would be a total waste of money. I have the 8900 and im waiting till one of the newer ones come out. The 9700 is almost the same thing as the 8900 with a trackpad. The 9780 is the same thing as the 9700 with a 5mp cam. Im personally gunna wait for the storm if it comes , or the bold touch. But again, even with the touch, looks almost the same but also comes with a touch screen. Id opt for the storm if tmobile gets it

I went from a 8900 to a bold 9700 & the 9780 is pretty much the same thing as the 9700 but with a bigger memory (which can be nicer)
& I Love my bold, no doubt, BUT If u can wait for the new phone, do it. It'll be well worth it. Otherwise the 9780 is a great phone, you cant go wrong with bolds

I broke the screen on my 8900 2 months ago and while using my old 8820 was okay for a while, I needed a more modern device so I got the best thing tmo had. I love my 9780. 3G is awesome, the new browser is much better and the memory is fantastic. The track pad takes some getting used to though. I have tons of apps and still have lots of room left. If my 8900 didn't kick it, I'd have held out for the next wave but my options were 8820,8310 and 7100t, and a G1. None of those were appealing for the long haul.

I did this upgrade... I'd say I'm happy with the upgrade, however I'd now received (2) 9780's that exhibit the defective keyboard issue (double inputs). I'm waiting for the Blackberry Bold Touch to come up and will ask T-Mobile to upgrade me to that device. Not wasting my time with anymore 9780's with questionable build quality.

Oh man...so after much debate I had to come to a very hard decision. I switched over to Verizon and the 9650. I don't know what's going on with T-Mobile (besides the merger), but something is not right. I was out of contract and had no choice but to upgrade due to non functioning 8900. Well, that upgrade was going to change my plan, which had been grandfathered in for the past 5 yrs now, and increase it by $30. That was it for me! Even doing a month to month and paying flat out for a phone was going to increase my payments. I didn't want to but felt that I needed to...so long T-Mobile! 1/2 broken-hearted

Have you tried applying alcohol on a swab an cleaning the trackball from debris. I did that once an my trackball has been working great ever since. If that don't work you can buy a trackball off flea bay an install one. It's not hard to do. But like some people are saying on this site BB better get their butts into gear because newer smartphones are making it hard for me to stay loyal to BB. I have been waiting for the HTC Sensation to come out in June, but I hate to leave my BB since I been a loyal user for over 8 years.

Yeah, I tried the alcohol. Didn't do a thing I've since switched to a trackpad 9650, which is not quite the same as my curve. (Teardrop)

You people DO realize that there is ALWAYS a better phone coming out? As soon as you buy that nice new shiny "latest and greatest", something else will be announced that makes you want to scream. I say unless there is some specific thing on the new ones that you want, get something now. Find one that meets your needs and that you like. This does NOT mean you should settle. Never do that. If there truly isn't anything out there that works for you, then go ahead and wait but don't fall victim to the thinking that you're getting the newest thing out. These days, we're always 5 steps behind and that's as you're walking out of the store.
