Default Adding insurance after 14 days?

I've had my 8900 for about 4 or 5 months and my girlfriend (on my account) has had hers for about 1 or 2. I called Tmobile to add insurance on both of those phones today but was told I can only have insurance added onto them within 14 days of purchasing. When I bought the phones I swear the rep told me I could add it on at anytime?? The phone are completely fine, I just figured for the $12.00/month it would be good piece of mind if something did happen.

Has anyone been able to add the insurance on after 14 days? If not are there any other good insurance alternatives or am I hosed and should just make sure the berries are babied!?

The only way you could add it at this point through T mobile is after doing an exchange. Even for your battery it gives the script to offer insuraance, maybe you could call in say both your phones don't hold power and add insurance after exchanging the battery. **** its free and worth a try

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't really want to have to pull a fast one on them to get the insurance so I'll just be as careful as I can and if one of them tanks then deal with it then! I was just under the impression you could add the insurance at anytime if you wanted, but guess that it makes sense you have to do it right away before your phone is old and has issues.

Unless you had to do a warranty exchange, you can't add the insurance on a line past 14 days.

Your best bet this late in the game, is to add a rider for the phones, to your home owners or renters insurance. The insurance should cover all your electronics, portable or otherwise, from fire, theft and damage from breakage and accidental drowning. As with all things, find out from YOUR insurance carrier, what type of coverage (if any), you can get to cover your portable electronics.

you're only able to add insurance to phones in the first 14 days, most likely to protect their inventory and prevent "hassles", such as these, in the future. It's unfortunate, but probably a good thing, because the phone prices stay lower for you when you want to upgrade and the cost of insuring a new one won't go sky high either.

Your best bet is Square Trade: Cell Phone Insurance | Cellphone Insurance | Mobile Phone Insurance | Cell Phone Warranty | Cellphone Warranty

$76.80 for 2 years, that is $3.08 a month.

"Warranties are only available in the first 30 days after the date of purchase, as indicated on the receipt."

this is indicated in the fine print on the square trade website.

Yea, I saw that as well. It definitely brought me back down. I need insurance on my phone as well. I was going to buy their insurance plan on Friday until I saw that. Now, I'm back looking.

If anyone comes up with anything, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

Did you happen to buy the phone with a Visa or Mastercard, or any type of credit card for that matter? Many times you get insurance on electronic purchases just by using your credit card to purchase it! Look at the fine print of your credit card agreement, and it's probably in there! You would basically file all claims through your credit card company.

Let me clear up a few things

- Insurance can only be added in the first 14 days because people were damaging their phones, adding insurance to already broken devices, then claiming them.

- As mentioned above, insurance can be added if you have to do a warranty exchange. You will be charged $9.99 shipping for the exchange, unless T-Mobile stores in your area can do an in-store exchange. Seattle area stores can, Las Vegas area stores cannot.

- It's possible that you got a new rep who did indeed tell you it could be added at any time. I hope that's not the case though, because they gave you misinformation.

If you're usually careful, it may not be necessary. That's your call though

if you have a different IMEI number then the current one you are on. then yes you can add it on. So yes a warranty exchange would give you another phone. They just want to double check that your phone isn't messed up already.
